The group includes five first-time nominees. The entire list of nominees, which will be cut to 25 in November and 15 in January, is below: QUARTERBACKs — Randall Cunningham, Jake Delhomme, Boomer Esiason, Jeff Garcia, Jeff Hostetler, Dave Krieg, Donovan McNabb Other than Cunningham, that's a pretty lame list for HOF consideration. I think for me it would Cunningham, Steve Atwater, and maybe Steve Tasker Im not sure if there has been a more impactful/celebrated non kicker/punter return specialist. special teams player. Of the new first time candidates I would have to pass on all of them.
Reaper
I guess this means we will have to hear Donovan Mcnabb whine about how he has better numbers than Aikmen or something like that for a while after he once again doesn't get in. Dear God Dave Krieg?? really?

But he was the face of what he was best at. I'm a sucker for a good HOF "story."

I don't doubt it, but when Atwater Took out my then favorite player Christian Okoye he instantly became one of my favorites. Such an intimidating force. I hadn't really given much though to Leroy Butler actually being in the Hall I just really liked the way Atwater played.

I kinda said this already but I'm not really a fan of the Hall Of Numbers stuff. Which isn't at all to say Butler shouldn't go in first though. Screw that guy.

I'm hardly a big Smith fan but that's insane. A guy who I'm fine with being in, for example, like Curtis Martin. Like there's maybe a debate to be had with someone like that. Best line ever and just massive carry load. Great longevity, I just feel like hes the epitome of bulk stats.

Dude has been a starting RB for like 30 years, 4th all time leading rusher, probably passes Barry this year... but only one truly great season, and even that year he finished behind LT and Larry Johnson in rushing. I think longevity ends up working in his favor, simply because it's amazing how long he's lasted.
Cakeshoppe
Honestly I don’t really understand a selection process that includes Delhomme as a candidate. Like nothing against the guy and i was a fan while he was playing but everyone knows he has no business being in the hall of fame so why even have a pool that includes him? Is it basically a nod in the direction of all those guys who were decent player for a while to give them one last moment of recognition before they vanish into obscurity for the fanbases of the 31 teams they didn’t play for?

I just recalled that Nagler (for some reason......) had made a direct comparison between these two guys and based on those numbers, Butler's got him hands down. Atwater was a player no doubt. Gore is a lesser player to me than Martin was. But yeah, longevity.

If it makes you feel better, I used to say this until I went back and watched some **** one winter and yeah, I was pretty wrong. It's not how it was always framed to me as a kid. Dear God Dave Krieg?? really? Remember the Dave Krieg fun fact? He is a graduate of Milton College... ...which went out of business and closed in 1982. Too bad Dave didn’t play in the era of introductions that featured your Alma Mater— Seattle Offense... ”Dave Krieg, Milt... never mind...”
