The Other Guys in the Draft - Who do you like

Essentially every draft thread is on the QBs (Rosen / Mayfield / Darnold / Allen / Jackson), and our favorite targets at 4 (Barkley / Fitzpatrick / Chubb). Odds are we only end up with one of these guys on draft day.

I want to start a thread so we can discuss literally everyone else, particularly those in the top 3 rounds. There is some awesome talent in this draft that we are not discussing (Nelson, James, Roquon Smith, several OL and CBs, etc....).

I have a few questions for everyone:

  • 1. Besides Barkley / Chubb / Fitz who would you be happy with selecting at four?
  • 2. Assuming we trade back from four, who would you like to target and what would you like to acquire?
  • 3. Who do you want to target at the top of the second round?
  • 4. Is there any players you would trade up to mid first round for?
  • 5. Who are 'your guys' this year that you would love for us to land?

I want this to be a free flowing thread so feel free to discuss anything (besides the QBs, Barkley, Fitz, Chubb)

1. I'd be happy with Derwin James or Quinton Nelson at 4 I think.

2. I think there is lots of interesting OL and CB targets. I really, really, really like Josh Jackson and Denzel Ward. I'd be cool with Orlando Brown.

3. I love Anthony Miller from Memphis. If we don't take Barkley I would love a RB here as well.

4. Same guys as #2. I think this is a prime year for a trade up given our draft capital. I want 3 first rounders again.

5. Anthony Miller, Shaquon Griffin, Simmie Cobbs

Nobody, and none of them. I would trade the pick as a partner is almost assured.

I would target:  Carlton Davis or Josh Jackson.

ARZ's #1 and #2 2019

3. Who do you want to target at the top of the second round?

Hard to say, especially since I probably would be trading #2s to move back into R1

No.

Price in the high 20s.

Price.

I think he will be around for a while to help our QBOTF.

I'd be content with Derwin James maybe Marcus Davenport, and if JT retires Orlando Brown

  • 2. Assuming we trade back from four, who would you like to target and what would you like to acquire? I would need a 2nd and a first and possibly a 3rd next year depending how good the team is

If we trade down from 4 all three of the names I mentioned along with Josh Jackson, Arden Key, and Isaiah Oliver

  • 3. Who do you want to target at the top of the second round?

Isaiah Oliver all day, Ronald Jones/Michel/Guice if no Barkley, Jessie Bates, Justin Reid

  • 4. Is there any players you would trade up to mid first round for?

Unless Derwin James started to fall no. But even if we drafted Minkah and James started to fall I might trade up. D.James, Minkah, and Peppers would be so crazy

  • 5. Who are 'your guys' this year that you would love for us to land?

There are a few I'll try my best to give sleepers

Sony Michel, Ronald Jones, Royce Freeman, John Kelly

DJ Chark, Keke Coutee, Auden Tate* especially, Eq St. Brown* especially, Darren Carrington******* Watch that guy he may be the diamond in this draft,

Ian Thomas from Indiana,

Brett Toth- would be a great value if we got him in the 5th to eventually be our LT once Joe is done

Chad Thomas Miami, RJ Mcintosh Miami

Marquis Hayes as a situational pass rusher

Isaiah Oliver I love his game long speed and athleticism, MJ Stewart, Donte Jackson, DJ Reed, Kevin Tolliver

Justin Reid and Jessie Bates

1. Derwin James. That's about it.

2. Derwin James. Orlando Brown. Marcus Davenport. Josh Jackson. Denzel Ward. I'd trade down to 10-15. I'd also try to trade down with the Cardinals and acquire Patrick Peterson.

3. Orlando Brown. Anthony Miller. Christian Kirk. Mike Hughes. Connor Williams. Brian O'Neill. Derrius Guice. Arden Key. Jaire Alexander.

4. Derwin James.

5. Derwin James, Saquon Barkley, Skai Moore, Jester Weah, Braxton Berrios, Deon Cain, MJ Stewart, Quin Blanding, Jerome Baker, Kurt Benkert, Mark Walton, Dorance Armstrong.

He'd be on that list if he had a chance to make it until R2.

Basically I want Derwin James...only in a platonic way.

...and a little bit sexually. I'd probably let him. While he doesn't provide the steam that Brady Quinn did, he's more of a bull. The kind of guy you know wouldn't call you back or cuddle afterwards, but would still make it fun.

He's the Saddam to my Satan whereas Brady Quinn was the Chris.

1. Besides Barkley / Chubb / Fitz who would you be happy with selecting at four?

Whoever is the legitimately best pure lockdown CB in the draft, whether it's Ward, Jackson, Davis, or the kid from Colorado. Usually OSU CBs are the best man/press man and have great technique. If Ward was 2 inches taller he'd go TOP 5 for sure, but at 5'10, he could drop a little.

2. Assuming we trade back from four, who would you like to target and what would you like to acquire?

If we trade back, I don't want to go past the 10-12 range. See above with the CB. I also would roll the dice on Derwin James somewhere in the 10-15 range. As good as Roquan Smith and Edmunds are, we have a great trio of LB's, so I wouldn't draft them, and the same with Nelson from Notre Dame at OG, unless I could get GREAT value for Bitonio/Zeitler or one of them was suddenly the world's greatest center or OT.

3. Who do you want to target at the top of the second round?

I'd love for their to be a game changing TE, but I don't see one this year. Since that's the case, if we don't go RB in Round 1, I'd like Guice in Round 2 if he's there. If Ateman tests well at the combine, his huge frame could be great in the Red Zone and he could be a fantastic WR#2 type option and a Gordon/Coleman insurance policy, with Coleman moving to the slot.

4. Is there any players you would trade up to mid first round for?

If one of those above CB's fell, I'd absolutely trade up for one. If I was 100% sure that one of the high rated OT's was going to fall to the late 20s and wouldn't be there at #33, I would trade a #2 and a #4 up to ensure that I got one.

5. Who are 'your guys' this year that you would love for us to land?

Darnold

Barkley

Ward

Jackson (Iowa)

If we go with a smaller WR, James Washington (5'11 and 7/8). If we go big bodied (my preference), Ateman and Cobbs (Indiana), or perhaps St. Brown.

Guice

As a rotational DE, I'd take T. Lewis from OSU on Day 3 (if he's still there).

Well...

I think it’s a given we address QB at 1, and that’s our most pressing need (by a country mile imo). After that, it’s BPA and maximizing value.

At 4 I don’t see “elite talent at a premium position”, so I’d like to trade back, acquire assets and grab a 1 for next year.  How far back we move would determine who I’d like to see us take.

Inside the top 10?  I like Tremaine Edmunds a LOT.  I realize we don’t have a huge need at LB, but the kid (19 years old) is an absolute monster. I think he’s a pro bowler at the second level of a defense that will be able to contribute against the run, cover TE’s and rush the passer.  I want a guy like that on our defense.

Denzel Ward is another guy I like a lot.  I realize he is smaller, but athletically he’s what we’ve lacked for a while.  He can flip his hips and run with anyone. He played all 3 years amongst the best CB’s in the country at OSU.

I LOVE the RB’s in this class.  In order (after Barkley), Guice, Jones, Michel, and Penny. Gimme one of these guys at the top of round 2.

1. Besides Barkley / Chubb / Fitz who would you be happy with selecting at four?

No one, except potentially D. James, but if we don't want to grab one of those three, we should slide back a few slots (and in general I'm dead set against trading down from either of our 1st rounders this year)

2. Assuming we trade back from four, who would you like to target and what would you like to acquire?

We should only trade back a few slots, so Barkley / Chubb / Fitz or D James or D Ward, maybe C Ridley

3. Who do you want to target at the top of the second round?

RB Guice or Jones or WR C Sutton

4. Is there any players you would trade up to mid first round for?

Heck yes,  I love the idea of using some of our bounty to slide up and grab any of the following D. Ward, J. Jackson, Ridley,  B Price or maybe McGlinchey depending on the sense we get with JT

5. Who are 'your guys' this year that you would love for us to land?

Neither are huge need positions, but I'd be happy if B Price or Rashaan Evans falls for us to slide up and grab either towards the end of the 1st round. C Sutton more at a position of need.

1. Besides Barkley / Chubb / Fitz who would you be happy with selecting at four?

I have been saying Minkah @ 4 since Nov......but if he's not there we have to trade the pick...The ONLY person I would POSSIBLY like at 4, would be taking Quenton Nelson, and thats IF we think he can play LT, I need to study the kid more...but from the abbreviated look I've taken, he kinda reminds me of Bruce Mathews (The finest lineman I ever saw play, was a pro bowler at C, OG and OT...was a multi time all pro at C and OG)...but I would have much more homework to do...So its Minkah or trade down...not too far.....(I have a real feeling that depending on free agency, buffalo is going to offer their 2 first + 3rd + 2109 1rst + Tyrod Taylor for 4 + Cody Kessler......)

Quote

2. Assuming we trade back from four, who would you like to target and what would you like to acquire?

I need more info on this question....if we trade back to 6 I'm looking at Minkah and Saquan still....if we trade back to 15, I'd look at something different, if we moved into the 20's it be BPABON (Best Player Available Based Based On Need......another Acronym you heard here first like DPR..designated pass rusher).....I dont see us trading #4 for a player period...we could do it for a QB, but were taking 1 at #1, I would say passrusher, but we already have 2 1rst round picks (#1 Garrett and #32 Ogbah) at DE....and LT is manned by Joe Thomas...so I don't see a player worth it.

Quote

3. Who do you want to target at the top of the second round?

Top of the 2nd round, I promise there will be two first round talents available with pick #1 and #3 on day 2 (with those two picks, #4, the last pick/first picks of rounds 2/3, and 1rst pick of day 3...we have some sexy trade spots).....my first Mock had us taking Marcus Davenport...but then the rest of the world caught on.....so I started mocking Courtland Sutton there....then the rest of the world caught on....so I am thinking that Arden Key slips....my dream would be Sutton and Davenport or Key....I have been saying we must upgrade pass rush since Nov....

Quote

4. Is there any players you would trade up to mid first round for?

There are a couple i would look at packaging our 2nds and moving up for, like if took Darnold and Minka at 1 and 6 (trade down), and somehow Quienten Nelson or Squan Barkley are still on the board at 12....then I need to break out the chart and and see if a combo of 2's and 3's gets it done..

Quote

5. Who are 'your guys' this year that you would love for us to land?

WR is DEEP this year IMO....Anthony Miller I've been on him since day 1, Trey Quinn SMU, Alan Lazard Iowa St,, Ritchie Jame MTSU, Michal Gallup Col St., DJ More UMD (lot of folks catching up here too), Simmie Cobbs Jr. Indiana.

Pass Rush Specialist: Dorrace Armstrong Jr (folks are starting to catch on), Ade Aruna Tulane DE, Javon Roland Ark St., Ebenezer Ogundeko, DE/DPR Tenn St, Marquis Haynes DPR Ole Miss....

Olb: the kid from South Carolina State, Darius Lenoard....and Sione Teuhema OLB (SE LA)

CB's: rashard Fant Indiana, JC Jackson UMD, Blace Brown CB Troy, Danny Johnson, CB, Southern, Taron Johnson Webbert St., Andre Chachere SJSU, Jaylon Dunlap ill, Ranthony Texada TCU.

TE: Ian Thomas Indiana

I will stop there, I have guys at each position, but my boss just asked me for a status update on a project that is due by Friday LMAO

No one. Unless we don't take a QB at one, in which case Darnold/Rosen/Mayfield/Jackson. I'd prefer to trade down than to take any of even those top guys you listed. If we had a need at MLB or OG I'd be more in for an Edmunds/Roquan/Nelson pick, but we don't, so I'm not.

Quote

2. Assuming we trade back from four, who would you like to target and what would you like to acquire?

Broncos, Jets, Arizona, Buffalo. My dream would be both of Buffalo's 1sts and a 1st next year.

Quote

3. Who do you want to target at the top of the second round?

D.J. Moore, Ronald Jones, Sony Michel, Derrius Guice, Whichever of the CBs slip.

Quote

4. Is there any players you would trade up to mid first round for?

Not off the top of my head. I think this draft is pretty flat outside of the QBs. The players selected 15-25 aren't going to be hugely more successful than the guys selected 35-45. So I'd rather burn our late round picks to get more 2nd round picks than give them up to get 1sts.

Quote

5. Who are 'your guys' this year that you would love for us to land?

John Kelly RB Tennessee, D.J. Moore WR Maryland, Hercules Mata'Afa DE Washington, Jaire Alexander CB Louisville.

Long shots after 3rd round

Logan Whiteside QB Toledo

Rasheed Penny RB SDSU

Kameron CB SDSU

Billy O'Neil T Pitt

Since I live in San Diego, I have seen the SDSU players and they are ballers.
