Team had the QB, pass rusher and WR with a Solid Oline. They needed help on the Dline (used 3 draft picks there). This defense would look completely different right now with Mack demanding attention. The rookies would have a lot more free looks. STs had a punter and decent kicker that got blown up and it's been a problem as well. They were one more solid draft class away and maybe a splash FA buy in the secondary. They had some good young talent and would have had a ton of flexibility unloading some contracts like Bruce Irvin's. There was another way to go about this instead of signing the oldest roster in the league. You scrap the over paid underachievers like Irvin and keep developing. Bottom line.... What young players are on the team (not drafted by Gruden), He's not even allowing them time to develop. Example, you bench KJ and Conley but let you horrible rookie punter continue to cost you games with 27 yard punts? Ego is a sign of insecurity... and that's why Gruden sucks and likely won't be able to turn this thing around. So you've completely changed your stance in less than a month. SMDH! Regardless, yes..... the last month has been extremely eyeopening.
oakdb36
Quote This roster is so void of talent from poor drafting, that was never going to happen. There was zero sense in forcing the "we gotta win for Oakland" shtick. The middle finger was waived at Oakland long ago. This team is looking beyond the next 2 years. The Raiders need starting caliber talent at CB, LB, S and Dline on defense. T, RB, WR, TE on offense in the upcoming offseasons. It's going to take a lot of work before they can win much of anything. Trading Mack was an admission of that. If Gruden thought they were a Mack away from winning it all, he'd not have traded it for future assets. Sorry, it was on september 10 that you posted this so it took you more than a month to do a 180.

Even with Mack, they had no #2 outside some flashes from Irvin and no inside rush. Some promising rookies, but over all....Irvin was never going to be anything with out a complementary piece and he's never much anyway. Team has lacked pass rushers for a long time. The lack of pass rush also amplifies the weak LBs and secondary

Hey man, like Gruden said, pass rushers are hard to find.
justwinbaby81
I would also venture to guess that we blitz the least.

Typically Guenther's MO but he also had Geno, MJ, and Dunlap in Cincy. But i dont think any LBs we have other than Irvin(and he doesnt provide much) are even remotely decent blitzing backers. big_palooka
I just can't buy Carr as a QB you can win with consistently and in eventually in the playoffs. Guy has become a lesser version of Alex Smith over the last 2 years as a passer.

You make it seem like Carr has all day to throw. And last nights game Carr got hit 17 times in the first half alone.
