Jags HC Doug Marrone and GM Dave Caldwell safe for 2019 season

Jags staying a step behind. Marrone isn't an awful coach but he(along with Coughlin) is far too stuck in old school ways of thinking to actually be successful long term. He's what Mularkey was for us. A guy who helped changed the culture and you can do worse, but you're also not going to progress much more than where he's taken them as HC.

Them keeping Caldwell is just whatever to me. He seems like a yes man for Coughlin anyway.

I don't hate keeping Marrone on board. Yeah, I don't love that offense so far, but that may also be limited by Bortles. But he's not a "bad" coach. He's not great, but you could do much worse, and honestly, I don't love a lot of the potential replacements out there. I don't mind giving him another year.

Caldwell should be fired for not bringing in competition for Bortles when they had the chance. They could have had Bridgewater AND L-Jack to breathe down Bortles' neck.

Blake just might enjoy that, for all I know.

Oooooo- do that again!

Marrone means "brown", in Italian, although I don't think that color should enter into this. Doug may simply be with the wrong team.

Shad Khan, with the electrifying announcement that his team will be maintaining status quo after a 5-11 season, is obviously looking to the Future, in keeping with his reputation as a Visionary!

They deserve to stay. To think otherwise is short-sighted. Last year wasn't automatically a fluke.

There are some culture things they need to change (Coughlin was hot about how Fournette and Yeldon acted while on the bench for this game, there have been some other similar stories related to that) and Bortles isn't the right QB, but they deserve a chance to get it right.  I'm also not certain how well Coughlin would do as a GM or coach either at this point.

There's also not the slam dunk "offensive guru" out there this year like Gase or Nagy, or a guy like Dan Quinn coming from a long-line of successful defenses and coordinators.  I think a lot of teams will be sticking with their coaches because of it.  As a Redskins fan, I'm pretty sure Gruden has another year, in part due to the Alex Smith and other litany of injuries, but also because that job is infinitely more toxic than it was pre-Smith injury with the Reuben Foster waiver claim and the purging of the business department after losing a power struggle to Bruce Allen.

But back on topic, there just isn't the slam dunk new genius hire, and the retreads this year aren't a promising bunch either.

Agree, pretty much. Coughlin needs to learn he's not a coach anymore, and cant spout off like that. Swap out Bortles, and build on the positive.
