And this defense is overstated. It doesn't have much to do with the Pats record against any team - division or not.

It has everything to do with the final records of those other 3 teams year in and year out. You win your division by having the best record of the 4 teams. Those 3 teams are almost always perennially between the 4-12 and 8-8 mark.

Its not a defense. It absolutely has to do with the Pats record. The East is bad, no one is denying that. But that is still just a max of 6 wins a year (something they don't do anyway). The Patriots beat everyone else, that's why they win the division and the AFC.

The original post said its the key to their success. Really? They win the AFC and SB so much because they play in the East?

The Los Angeles Chargers will go six weeks between games held at their home stadium this fall..

The six-week gap between games is not the most significant of the season though as the Oakland Raiders and Tampa Bay Buccaneers will each go seven weeks between games on their home turf.

@Ray Reed is absolutely correct, though! I may have been wrong about the results within the division, but when the season results in each division opponent having losing records, the Pats are division champs by default. It is one of the weakest divisions...perhaps THE weakest. Sure, they earn their way to the SB via the playoffs, but they sit rather pretty being Division Champ every single year.

The AFC East has had two winning teams every year since 2013 except for last season so again the idea that the Pats are guaranteed a division title because everyone has losing records is false.  Also it is not like the Patriots are the only team that plays the East opponents.
