Ted Thompson battling autonomic disorder

According to the U.S. National Library of Medicine website, the autonomic nervous system is “the part of your nervous system that controls involuntary actions, such as the beating of your heart and the widening or narrowing of your blood vessels. When something goes wrong in this system, it can cause serious problems, including blood pressure and heart problems and trouble breathing and swallowing.”

The disorders can occur alone or as the result of another disease, such as Parkinson's disease, alcoholism and diabetes, the website said.

After some quick reading, it really does seem like this explains a lot of the things that were both rumored and publicly visible. Seems like a really difficult thing to go through. Kinda sucks that the narrative in some circles became about a GM so checked out that he was sleeping through meetings, rather than a story about a guy who was pushing through a debilitating disease and the things people were seeing were symptoms of that.

Yup and people use that against his legacy too, which is sickening for what he's accomplished.

I wonder why Murphy and Thompson did not say right from the beginning that Thompson had stepped down willingly? They made it look like he got fired. I wouldn't necessarily expect Thompson to disclose his diagnosis at that point, but it would have looked better for him and the whole organization if his demotion had been presented to the public as a retirement. So I have to wonder if he really did step down willingly.

Either way of course, it's sad that he has a serious health problem. He's always been an honorable guy, and he did great things for the Packers.
