FinSting
Crap. Could only see the first part of the headline without clicking, wanted to see "traded to Dolphins" at the end but was not to be.
N4L
Whether its with the Texans or someone else, he cant sign a long term extension, so I don't really know what he thinks he is gaining by sitting out games. Perhaps he just wants to avoid injury? At which point, he might as well not show up until week 10 to get the accrued season.

Problem with that is that you still can have a injury if you decide to play in November ... Remember Dez Bryant last year when he had a serious injury in practice last year after signing a contract with the Saints in November. Xmad
He's going to show up for game checks.

The game checks he misses this year will pale in comparison to the extension he's about to sign, and he has ALL of the leverage right now. The teams can't extend him before the season ends because he is on the franchise TAG. Edited August 29, 2019 by Steelersfan43
TecmoSuperJoe
Maybe he can pull a Randy Moss, and dog it.

He cares about the money and he'll show to get said money.

Yup, July 15th was the last day to sign an extension. However, Clowney and his crew are still pushing for the DE vs OLB franchise tag designation because its worth about $ 1 million more as a DE than an OLB https://overthecap.com/the-texans-options-with-jadeveon-clowney/ "Clowney’s trade value would also be at an all time low if traded now. Clowney’s value, under normal circumstances, should fall somewhere between Khalil Mack’s multi first round trade and the 49ers 2nd rounder for Ford. Probably something like a first round pick and a mid round selection or a player thrown in on the trade. With the Texans looking as if they are in crisis mode the best they may be able to do is a second round pick."

Given his reputation coming out of South Carolina, I doubt he could do this and still be looked at in the same light. He has been good (not GREAT, not #1 pick worthy) so he's already got that against him. Dogging it will get those Steve Spurrier "He's not the hardest worker" quotes all over the Twittersphere and probably all over various FOs.
tab
i'm weirdly ok with him just sitting out. i dont want to do anything with him until we have a GM
SkippyX
What is the point of missing regular season games beyond the fact that he is too stupid to want the money? The Texans can't give him a deal now. If he is traded the new team can't give him a deal now. If he really puts the pressure on by missing some games... nothing changes (except the Texans save cap money by not paying him for several weeks) Sounds like the kind of deep thinker that would cause his team to lose a game while he was on the sidelines in street clothes.

If anything, sitting out the beginning of the year might up his chances of injury like it did Bryant's due to lack of training. He has nothing to gain and everything to lose by sitting out games.
