pf9
From 1989 to 2011, there were only 4 ties in the NFL, an average of one every 5 or 6 years. Since changing the OT rules in 2012, there has been an average of at least one tie each year. Now for two years in a row there has been a week 1 tie. During this time 2 national games ended in ties both in the same season. Now the time has come to adopt college OT rules. Those changed this year to turn the 5th overtime and beyond into a 2 point conversion shootout so that games that last that long end quicker. If the NFL doesn't do something before 2023, when new TV contracts are set to begin, the NFL's TV partners will certainly make continuing their relationships with the league contingent on adopting the college rules. TheKillerNacho
i like ties and I doubt very much the networks give a damn about whether or not the NFL tries to eliminate them
Malfatron
no way ties are too awesome. when neither team deserves to win and they shouldnt. @Woz should point and laugh at them both. College rules feel so gimmicky
Malfatron
but i think since the new fg rules, change OT period back to 15 mins and its solved
LeotheLion
I'd rather just eliminate the Lions and Cardinals.

Shady Slim
college overtime is stupid and gimmicky and has no place in the nfl if you can't win the game in sixty minutes, and you still can't in ten more, you don't have the right to demand anything other than a tie; i would how so ever be open to extending OT Edited September 9, 2019 by Shady Slim
footbull3196
The new overtime rules aren’t as much of the problem here as the fact that overtime was shortened from 15 mins to 10. Since that happened, every overtime game feels like a tie in the making unless someone scores a touchdown on their first drive or screws up badly enough to hand the game over to the other team I feel like if they just went back to 15 min overtimes ties wouldn’t be occurring frequently enough for it to be this much of an issue

The Lions basically eliminated themselves by letting the Cardinals tie them in the first place

What makes you think the networks give a damn? They just want to be able to broadcast football. They don't care about details that small. Ties or not are not impacting viewership.
SkippyX
I am fine with the ties but please bring back 15 minute OT. Teams kill clock now as a strategy so the games actually last longer than the 15 minute ones used to.
showtime
If the NFL wanted to prevent ties, they don't have to do college rules. They could just make playoff overtime rules the same as regular season overtime rules.
ChazStandard
I say the opposite - eliminate OT during the regular season. More ties. In a league system not every game needs to be a W/L. Just introduce OT for play off games.

Can’t wait for Week 17 when the 6-6-3 Texans go up against the 7-6-2 Titans for the division
