Without the last penalty on Flowers we still kick a field goal and take the lead— most likely. I don’t understand this fashionable rush by people to denigrate our victory over a good team with our short-handed receiving corps.

I can’t help but think that the NFL will not be pleased with Booger littering the last ten minutes of the broadcast with relentless defaming of their officials over a call that was quite reasonable. Flowers is flirting with the letter and spirit of the rule by throat punching his opponent.

To be fair, the video angles on TV totally sucked and it wasn’t clear to us during the game.  The ref who made the call was in perfect position to see exactly what was happening, so we’ve all changed our tune quite a bit seeing the photos, which is enough for me to move on with no regrets.

No excuse for Booger’s doooshnuggetry though.  That was inexcusable and I’m sure he’ll be hearing from someone.

One of the keys to living a happy and well-balanced life is learning to take joy in those slight moments that line your path. Today I take joy in the fact that the Lions lost by 1 points in a game where they surrendered a TD because they trotted out 12 men trying to cover a 4th and 5 FG attempt.

I agree, except when it comes to replay.

Why wasn't the Hock catch a TD? Two feet, possession, end zone. .

Going to the ground is gone, soooooo...

You have to maintain possession going to the ground.  The ball came out incomplete pass.  That's the rule.

Yes. I'd actually be mad my team couldn't even crack 100 yards of offense for three quarters and did zilch with three turnovers. I wouldn't be online whining like a drunk loser blaming the refs but thankfully I'm not a Lions/Vikings/Bears fan.

Hands in the trenches come up all the time. I suggest watching trench play more closely. It isn't malicious, just happenstance.

It ain't one out of fifteen snsos

I focus on the line all the time, actually.  Sure hands come up in a scrum, but when you’re driving a guy back several yards right in front of a ref, and your hand is clearly in the guys face area, you’re just begging to get flagged.

Rule 8, section 1:

ARTICLE 3. COMPLETED OR INTERCEPTED PASS. A player who makes a catch may advance the ball. A forward pass is complete (by the offense) or intercepted (by the defense) in the field of play, at the sideline, or in the end zone if a player, who is inbounds:

  1. (a)  secures control of the ball in his hands or arms prior to the ball touching the ground; and

  2. (b)  touches the ground inbounds with both feet or with any part of his body other than his hands; and

  3. (c)  after (a) and (b) have been fulfilled, performs any act common to the game (e.g., tuck the ball away, extend it forward, take

an additional step, turn upfield, or avoid or ward off an opponent), or he maintains control of the ball long enough to do so.

    Notes:

    1. [...]

    2. (2)  If a player, who satisfied (a) and (b), but has not satisfied (c), contacts the ground and loses control of the ball, it is an

incomplete pass if the ball hits the ground before he regains control, or if he regains control out of bounds.

The rule is poorly written and imo they should have never removed the language that they did, but you'll have a hard time convincing me that Hockenson satisfied (c) before contacting the ground.
