I think a lot of people (reading through the replies here) are completely overlooking how much effort and coaching it took for Harbaugh to build the best team in the NFL this year. It's not like we had a crap ton of talent carrying over from last year.

You won the division last year for Christsake and you listed all of your subtractions while ignoring things like adding Brown, Ingram, a year of development for Lamar, Signing Earl Thomas, etc.

It has to be Kyle Shanhan the amount of injuries we have piled up and still sitting with the number 1 seed at 11-2 is damn near a miracle.

The 49ers have lost about 190 games from players this year but the quality of those players has been average according to ManGamesLost. They have lost less men than bot of their Division Rivals and less quality players

Don't even bother. All I heard all off-season was we lost so much on defense and these dudes are tryna act like we had no change at all.

No because you guys are being disengenuous acting like you haven't actually brought in any players of quality to help your team. Like Earl Thomas and Marcus Peters and Mark Ingram are trash. You're literally praising Harbaugh for getting rid of players and then ignoring guys he brought in; until it's a good thing then you praise him again.

Kevin Colbert's managing should get more credit than Tomlin's coaching.

Yeah, that's why it's Kevin Colbert the players are praising. It's Colbert who the players are saying has stepped in to change the defensive system to make the cornerbacks successful. It's Colbert who has the CB who gave up the most yards and touchdowns in the NFL last year now giving up the least yards and touchdowns on the season...

And how are those things any different from any other team in the NFL? Fact is going into this season, even with Earl Thomas, we were a team that was completely unknown on all sides of the ball with very little established top end talent.

I stopped taking Coach of the Year seriously when Cowher didn’t win it in 2004. It’s always been a political award in which the goalposts move. Case in point, Cowher in 2004 when suddenly the criteria was neither most improved (same number of win improvement as Schottenheimer) nor was it best team (as Cowher’s rookie-QB led team went 15-1 and beat the other two tams with 14+ wins that season in back to back weeks).

Really would have been great to see Bill Cowher have more years with Ben Roethlisberger.

Mike Tomlin inherited Cowher's team

Dude,

You know Colbert's the one who made the move to trade up in the draft to get Devin Bush?

You know Colbert's the one who made the regular season trade for Minkah Fitzpatrick?

You know Colbert's the one who has drafted all the defensive superstars Pittsburgh has had in the last 20 years right?

The only big move Tomlin made with the team was to bench Rudolph for Hodges, but he even waited too long before somebody in the staff meeting told him to make that decision.

Funny, so then does Colbert get dinged for the talent not performing in year's prior? Or nah? Is that not how it works?

Amazing how in only 35 posts on this forum you've already manage to establish yourself as a top tier troll.

Dude, Lamar is not a "project."

He's not off of some assembly line.

The kid's talent is completely his own.  Harbaugh was almost fired 3 years ago.

Lamar Jackson was a huge project coming out of college. And he was a completely wild passer last year that looked lost throwing the football.

To imply that he was destined for greatness coming into this season is hilarious hindsight.

Yeah, you lost an almost 40 year old Terrell Suggs and an injury prone CJ Moseley, and got Earl Thomas and Marcus Peters instead.

The secondary is completely beefed up from regular season trades.

Not really the degraded defense you're trying to play it out to be.

Injury prone Mosley? That's false, he was very reliable for us ESPN says he missed 3 games in 5 years. OLB is one of our weakest positions, Suggs would be getting significant snaps if he was here.

But Im not arguing with your point I thought we'd be a top 10 defense this season.

Weeks 1-5: "Ravens defense sucks. Losing Weddle, Mosley and Suggs was huge"

Weeks 5-14: "lol Ravens defense lost a disabled Suggs and Mosley is on IR so they actually upgraded!"

Well yeah your defense was pretty bad weeks 1-5 but they've obviously figured it out since then, so of course what people say about them is going to change because how they are playing is changing.

Sometimes it takes a while to gel, so what they said in weeks 1-5 was accurate, it's hard to lose so many guys at once. Then what they said later was true as well, you did upgrade at a few key spots.

So sensitive lol sheesh

Ravens fans keep trying to change the narrative. Who cares what people say? If you know you're right then time will show it and you don't need to be so worried about it. People have been talking a ton of smack about/downplaying Garoppolo for a few years but I know what a great QB looks like so I don't even bother. Time will show that I'm correct.

Meanwhile if someone has the audacity to say that the former special teams coordinator harbaugh doesn't deserve to win COY over a coach who is running one side of the ball in totality, with basically the same record who went from 4 wins to 11+wins, y'all are outraged like we just called Lamar a dirty word or something. Yeeesshh just enjoy it while it lasts because nothing is forever

It has to be Shanahan's award to lose at this point. I'd put the Packers rookie head coach as a candidate too. Especially if they get a bye.

It is rather remarkable how this team is finding ways to win when our QB isn't playing all that great.  They seem to get along fine but Rodgers isn't the same player he once was.
