Fun with Cowboys Salary Cap:  Est 77 million in space with 7 of that for rookies  (of course these are estimates)

Dallas has 8 free agent starters

  • Prescott  - 34 million estimate (27ish if tagged)
  • Cooper - 16 million estimate (14 to 18)
  • Jones - 13 million estimate (11 to 15)
  • Quinn -  7 million  (wild variance depending on market  6 to 12?)
    • 80 sacks in 125 games
  • Witten - 2 million (retire or leaving?) draft a replacement?
    • Is Jarwin a starter?
  • Heath -  3.5 million  (decent starter, could get as much as 5 depending on needs)
  • Lee  - 5 million (leaving?)
  • M  Collins  - 8 million?  (He will get paid, just like Reader in Houston)

That's above their cap room before getting to the high volume rotational players

  • Bennett - 5 million (5 to 8) (me-first player who left 2 far better situations over greed or role - discount very unlikely)
  • Cobb - 7 million (6 to 10) (no more prove it after injury year)
  • Brown - 4 million (mediocre CB but the league needs those guys)
  • Covington - 1 million (replacement level?)
  • Su'a-Filo - 1 million  (he's not great but he's the #3 guard) - Draft a replacement and hope

That's somewhere in the 105 million range (100 with a tag on Dak) just to keep the same team together.

About the only cut that would generate real cap savings would be Tyrone Crawford (8 million) who only played 4 games last year, but he's been a good player before that.

In theory they could cut Fleming for 4.5 million savings, but he's the only depth OT that does not suck behind a fragile line.

  • He has a couple rings and played in a 3rd SB in NE in the same role.

Where does the 27M figure come from the tag? It should be closer to 31-33M based on the average of the top 5 highest paid guys.
Cooper on the open market (probably makes it there) probably gets the higher end of that, 17-18M per
Jones probably gets the higher end as well on the open market, 14-15 M per
Quinn is probably gone
Witten is done.

If they want to retain those 3, it's probably somewhere around 64-65M, 77-65/64-7 (for Rookies) = 5-6 Million in cap space. for everyone else.

Though in the first years of their deals, it's probably going to be a bit lower. so we'll say 12-14 Million to work with for everyone else.

My predictions for the Saints upcoming free agents

Eli Apple- Allowed to test the market, could come back if he realizes he's not gonna get big money

Ted Ginn- He'll be a FA for a while. Doubt the Saints bring him back. Maybe at the end of the preseason if someone gets hurt.

Andrus Peat- Landfill.

P.J. Williams- He'll go be a decent reserve somewhere else.

Vonn Bell- Saints will re-sign him

D.J. Swearinger- He'll be allowed to test the market. I could see him re-signing for cheap. Saints are suckers for this type of doofus.

Manti Te'o- Same as Ginn

David Onyemata- Saints need to bring him back. He's really solid and shouldn't be too expensive.

Zach Wood- Re-signed.

Cameron Tom- Re-signed

Justin Hardee- Re-signed

J.T. Gray- Re-signed

Taysom Hill- 2nd round tender.

Keith Kirkwood- Re-signed

Curious where the money comes from. None of your QBs are signed for next year and you’re very strapped for cash. Everybody thinks we’re short on money and pucks but we’re not that bad off.

If you restructure everybody you can it really doesn’t show a lot of money you can create that way either.

a combination platter of 3 things

1) Nobody listed will cost very much

2) Loomis has laughed at the cap his entire career.

3) the cap is fake anyways, ask anyone

ESPN has a pretty cool Free Agency Dreaming setup by Barnwell today.

http://www.espn.com/espn/feature/story?_slug_=predicting-2020-nfl-offseason-dominoes-eight-star-players-set-144-move-chaos&id=28600904&redirected=true

I think a lot of the numbers are insane (like 30 a year for Teddy and 25 for Clowney, 40 for Brady in Indy!) but its really well done technically and its a conversation starter for sure.

Murray and Kamara combined for 12 TDs this year.

  • Ingram himself had 15 in Baltimore.
  • Ingram/Kamara had 25 TDs combined in both 2017 and 2018

That fake salary cap kicked the Saints in the butt.

Ingrams agent told the Saints they had a standing offer of 8 million per year from Baltimore (which he did not)

Saints offered about 5 million per year if i remember correct. But once his agent told them 8 they immediately turned to getting a replacement.

Its not that the Saints couldnt afford Ingram. His agent kind of blew it up.

Number three is interesting because we’ve been listening for a couple of years to people telling us the Rams we’re screwed with the cap.

13-3 and first place in the NFC south both years

so the butt kicking was just as fake as the cap

The salary cap is a speedbump. It's only holding you back if you're atrocious at handing out contracts. There's so many people on this forum who seem to think that less cap space = screwed/bad GMing, more cap space = good spot/good GMing.

Its a finite resource, but only a valuable resource if used efficiently and effectively.

'17 - 4th in pts (11wins)

'18 - 3rd in pts (13wins)

'19 - 3rd in pts (13wins)

Saints offense seemed like it stayed right on schedule
