candyman93
You can win a super bowl with Dak. Just build an elite defense.

Name all the 5k total yard, 30 td QBs in the NFL. Now name them with the wins and efficiency stats. Which ones don't deserve a contract?

The cowboys shouldn't be afraid to move on from him. Browns nation is hoping 3 qbs go top 10, it gives a shot at one of the top 6 players in the draft sans the pass rusher from ohio state Bengals, Dolphins, Chargers, Panthers are all in play for a QB. If Herbert makes it past #7, I'd be shocked frankly.

DerbyRam
Interesting to see what Dak does, more selfish players would hold out but doesn't seem his character. He deserves to get paid though, he's seen Wentz and Goff get their deals.

I also don't think McCarthy would appreciate being forced to throw in some crappy backup QB while they look for their next guy. Franchise Quarterback is the hardest position in sports to solidify. Then why do they keep losing to good teams?

Not saying you were implying anything negative, but this narrative that it isn't ideal is odd to me. The number of QBs who have out performed Dak in their first 4 years is like... 5? Maybe 10? There can't even be that many when you combine wins, passed rating and any/a. There is probably like 3 QBs in the history of the NFL to match him. Yet everyone acts as if he is Peterman. I don't get the "not ideal" mindset. Having a franchise QB is always ideal.

You're going to have to pay him like he's the #1 QB. That's not ideal, regardless of whether you think he's top 10 or closer to the middle. But it's better to be in that situation than to not have a QB.
BayRaider
Been sayin all year Cowboys will use Franchise on Dak. He hasn’t shown nearly enough to warrant a 34M per year 4-5 year contract. But you also can’t let him walk, absolutely not.

RandyMossIsBoss
Dak, being a mid round pick, already spent 4 seasons playing WAY above his salary. That would be unbelievable if he really was content to just take the tag and keep playing with no financial security. I get it, "Cowboys! America's team, endorsement opportunities he wouldn't have otherwise!"... but I doubt that's even enough to make up for what his 1st round peers earned in salary through 4 years. His agent should absolutely have him hold out if he has any faith in Dak's talent, and thus ability to secure a deal on the open market.

People either think he's top 6 or bottom 10 in every thread. The reality is he's a fringe top 10 guy who can sometimes play better than that. Either the cowboys or daks agent are absolutely moronic not to get a deal done yet. I mean, you kinda just laid out the impasse. Dak's agent wants him to be the highest paid QB and then some, and the FO, as much as they love him, view him as more of a game manager who needs to be protected with high-end surrounding talent. That's all I can figure. Otherwise the two sides are haggling over relative pennies. Edited February 3, 2020 by matt79511
