Greatest Hitters in NFL History

This reminded me of three hits that stick out in NFL history to me that just looked devastating.

The hit on Eddie George by Casey Hampton in the 2003 wild card game between the Titans and Ravens. Eddie got his lights knocked out.

The hit on Pierre Thomas by Donte Whitner. Like Eddie George, Thomas got knocked out before he even hit the ground. The Saints were marching on their first drive, and this was a huge momentum shift in the game.

And the hit on Boomer Easison in 1995 against the Bills from Bruce Smith. Boomer legit looked dead.

And this following video years later from an interview with Esiason was a little ominous. I'll just say the video was published in November of 2012. Listen to what he says:

Just from recent memory, no one hit harder than Kam Chancellor in the last decade. He also often times did so with great form tackles (which might not typically be considered a big hit) and they were still crushing blows.

Steve Atwater.  Some of his hits were absolutely brutal.

Steve Atwater knocked out 3 players with 1 hit in the Super Bowl....including himself.

As for Sean Taylor you have to include him. If his career continued on he would have had a 10+ min highlight video of him just destroying people. Similar to Dawkins he came for blood Everytime he made a hit

The obvious answers are all defensive players, but I like thinking of this from the other way- offensive players who absolutely laid people out. I'm not talking about guys who ran hard or were hard to tackle, but guys that made contact with defenders, while the ball was in their hands, and knocked them to the ground. Obvious names that come to mind are Brandon Jacobs, Christian Okoye, and Earl Campbell.

Mike Alstott.

Also WRs like Steve Smith and Hines Ward got their fair share of skull shakers

Ladanian Tomlinson. He didn't Iay a shoulder into defenders, but his stiff arm would get guys horizontal...

He'd get a hand on a defender and let them get in a bit - almost like he was creating recoil on his arm - and then he violently slammed them into the ground.

It may not be a hit... but I sure as hell don't want to be on the other side of that.

I feel Taylor is immensely overrated, but there’s no way I would ever say Dawkins (who certainly played with unmatched tenacity, aggressiveness, and effort) was a harder hitter.

As a hitter? Overall? Disagree with both, dude was well on his way to being a top safety. 12 INTs and 8 FFs in just under 4 seasons. Fully remember you saw teams trying to attack Washington on the outside for fear of going over the middle.
