College Football and Draft Discussion 2024

There is gathering chatter that CJ Stroud might not declare. There is talk that he is getting a 5 million dollar NIL deal to stay in college for one more year.

This will be the first time that it greatly impacts the draft. This is a big deal if he doesn’t declare. Puts the bears in such a great position to get a big deal to move out of the one pick and could really screw the Texans for winning that last game

He would get more in the NFL though, so it seems weird.

he might not like the idea of him never doing anything truly 'Ohio State' great! When was the last time an Ohio St QB never had - beat michigan or - won a big10 title on their resume? I think you have to go back to Bellisari as the last QB to go winless vs michigan and or not win a big10 title. That is dating back to '99-'00.

The idea of the NIL makes it worth while to potentially stay cause at least he should secure enough money to take care of his family.

In reality, there might be a chance it could be better long term for him. I think with the Amazon money and the other big time money coming into play, we should potentially see a jump in rookie contracts. So the contract a 1st rd '24 rookie might be a lot better than the '23 rookie contract. Im not positive how they figure those rookie deals out. His 5th year option might be a lot better cause its one more year of QBs getting bigger money cause of the increased salary cap.

WIth their no promises that he will see a big time 2nd contract like Baker didnt see or Zach Wilson wont see, wouldnt it make sense to maybe try and wait out one more year to get that larger 1st contract.

Before it never made sense to leave any money on the table cause they were just 'broke' players who were getting some dirty money from boosters and what not but now they are getting NIL deals that can make it a little worth it to say. Especially if its $5m off the rip. At least that will let him be set and his family be set

Christian Watson type of WR

People forget how polished Watson really was. He was perceived as this big dude that couldn't run a route and had zero short area quickness. Those were both false. This guy does struggle to run routes and is more in-line with Moritz Mohringer than he is with Watson, IMO.
