Mutually beneficial relationship that they were both aware of going in. Mayock would be the scapegoat if things went sour or John's picks busted, and Gruden lets him do later rounds so he can point to Crosby/Renfrow/etc as his guys should he get axed and want to go to another front office or back to draft coverage. The fact that we've consistently went into the draft with major holes has killed us. We could've signed a stop gap veteran RT in free agency but instead put all of our faith in Leatherwood.
