This is a timeless conversation that'll never be properly answered. Each are the GOATS of their sports why can't people leave it at that.

Perhaps because the discussion itself can be interesting and enlightening, and never needs to arrive at a definitive consensus in order to have value.

Jordan, Brady, Gretzky

I'd like to take the time to point out how great Mike Trout has been. He's finished top 5 in MVP in every full seasons he's played. (He only played 40 games his rookie year.) That's 9 years in a row and counting. He's leading baseball in OBP, SLG, and OPS, so he's well on his way to 10. Too bad one player can't carry a team to a title in baseball like other team sports.

He was called up as a 19-year-old, so this is only his age 29 season.

Why did it take Jordan so long to win compared to other all time greats, not just in sports in his own league? He didn’t get to a conference title game until year 5 and didn’t get to the Finals and win until year 7.

They made the playoffs in year 2  and 3 but that was because the bottom of the East was so trash. They were 20 games under .500 In 86 and 2 games below in 87.

He needed Pippen to get past big, bad Pistons.

Because the Celtics and Pistons were really good and he basically needed them to age out. If he did get past them, he would have had the same issue with the showtime Lakers.

TLDR: he needed certain teams to decline.

He started 7 games in 85-86 due to injury. They were 50-32 in 87-88. He was so good that the Pistons developed the “Jordan Rules” to stop him. Basically, the strategy was: beat him up and win the game because no one else on the team was capable of stepping up until Pippen.
