Most overrated GM ever. Imagine not being able to capitalize off that Nets haul, and then on top of that the Nets are primed for titles and you aren’t. Yikes

The nets are primed for titles because kyrie harden and KD wanted to play together..

A couple of things always bothered me about Ainge.  The first is that he seemed intent on winning any trade he did by an overwhelming margin or he wouldn't do it.  Examples are the Nets deal and the trade down with the 76ers when they took Tatum.  He acquired a lot of draft picks but should have consolidated them down into something of higher quality even if he didn't "win" the trade by doing so.  Going hand in hand with that, I don't think he's done a great job of drafting outside of his high lottery picks.  A lot of the players they've drafted have been low ceiling high floor back up types.

I mean, what really killed Boston is Sacramento deciding to randomly be good for the one year they had that pick and Hayward destroying his ankle year 1

Ainge gets hate but he was one of the most aggressive executives in the league. He was able to acquire Allen/KG and build a championship team then blew it up and acquired the assets needed for a quick rebuild. He hired Brad Stevens who was the hottest coaching prospect in basketball at the time, who has taken the team to like 3 ECF? He traded for Kyrie Irving and signed Kemba Walker, Gordon Hayward, and Al Horford. And he also drafted guys like Smart, Brown, and Tatum (w/trade back instead of Fultz).

Will be interesting to see what Boston does going forward but having Tatum/Brown to build around is a great spot to be in regardless.

And Ainge actually won a title by building a Big 3 which essentially inspired the current era of superstars wanting to play together.

Ainge is a really good GM. He gets a lot of flack for a lot of stuff that was out of his control but I also agree it was time to move on. Sometimes you just need a new vision for better or worse.
