There's no doubt Lance is very limited right now.   But the arm talent is unreal.  The boundary and vertical throws he makes are basically ones that Mahomes, Allen & Herbert can make...and that's pretty much it.  And we've seen the mobility / elusiveness.   The running wasn't even that impressive this past week.    And while he is still really raw, his read progression is actually better than what I expected it to be.  Don't get me wrong, he's got a lot of flaws (the mechanics and footwork definitely need it), but this is a very special skill set we're dealing with.

Still doesn't remove the bust potential, but next year, Lance could be similar to Jalen Hurts with a better vertical game (who also took 4 years of college at the highest levels, and 2 pro years to be where he's at now - contrast that to 1 year FCS and being benched the entire year except ARI, Lance is so much earlier in his growth curve).   To be even Hurts-level next year (amazing fantasy stats, real-life more mixed bag), let alone Hurts with a better vertical game, speaks to a sky-high ceiling (like Hurts, still can be a bust too).

A Rams D that can get to the QB, and a CB like Ramsey who can bait throws, poses a much harder test.   So yeah, a more polished QB for sure has a better chance than a raw rookie with so much to learn.    But the reasons for SF to invest so heavily in Lance, the tools and ceiling are undeniable to me (recognizing outright bust floor outcome still very much there).

Yes. It's just a long row to hoe. Fans without any perspective are going to get on him next year if he doesn't look like dynamite, and it's going to be annoying.

Personally I'm more of a fan of drafting someone out of college that's a more refined/polished product even if the ceiling isn't that high. At the same time I can understand Kyle as a coach looking at someone as talented as Lance, and gambling that he's going to find the next Steve McNair or Josh Allen.

Another reason to go to the college OT rules is to guarantee that every NFL team will have either a winning season or losing season - no .500 seasons being possible with the elimination of ties, at least until the schedule is expanded to 18 games - which would make the NFL unique among the big 4 sports leagues for a good reason as opposed to a bad one like allowing ties.

Small chance this happens but that’s kinda wild if both teams did this lol.

Can you imagine.
Game starts with a Chargers kick out the back of the endzone, no return.
Derek Carr snaps the ball and stands there for 15 minutes talking to Joey Bosa, the quarter ends and they walk to the sideline for a loss or gain of 5 yards to the bench.
Second down Derek Carr snaps the ball and stands there for 15 minutes chatting with Joey Bosa. He doesn't run, they just stand there before they walk off the field around the 50 yard marker for halftime.

Second half Herbert does the same chatting with Maxx and Yannick.
Overtime happens and whoever wins the flip gets the ball, and pretends like they are going to take off and try and eliminate the other team, they don't actually try though it's just for fans to talk about something for the 5th play of the game that is now in OT. The clock expires and both teams congratulate each other on the playoffs, fully healthy.

That's a great one. There was a lesser example in group stage of the Olympics women's soccer last summer. USA and Australia were both in great shape to advance with a tie in the final game. After a few chances early both teams settled into an incredibly boring game. They kicked it around in the back half and ended up 0-0.

Then the same two teams met for the bronze medal later in the event. USA won 4-3.

Pssshy.  Easton Stick vs. Marcus Mariota (or, dare we dream, Nathan Peterman elevated from the PS?) FTW.  Proper last week of the regular season and probably still not the worst QB play we'd see that weekend.

tbh I think Mariota would be too much of a threat to run and actually win the game and wouldn't be trusted

They would get rid of ties if this happens or face severe fines. They might *wink wink* each other in OT and just pound the ball 3x and punt, but they’d play to win the first half as you would the final preseason game.

Besides, you can’t risk injuries having games go to OT unless they do kneel 3x and punt.
