from Gruden

doesn't sound like a guy they're about to let go

Based on these comment I would assume he is our RDE for now. Mack the LDE and Mario gets a chance at UT...

Dude it's one more year. he wants to win in the Bay, He didn't show any signs of breakdown last season

I don't care what he wants. He's not worth the price tag. The moment he shows up late to meeting or starts with his antics and Gruden has to throw him in check, that relationship will deteriorate and become a distraction.

He didn't show signs of breakdown last season because they had him on a pitch count most the season. He turned it on to 1) get to 10K yards and 2) get his bonus.... fooling yourself if you think any different.

And yes... it's just one more year. They are not winning a Superbowl next year, so why waste time with him? Draft and get younger and get a guy in your program for Gruden's second year. I see zero reason to waste a season on Lynch personally.

Really? Doesn’t it sound like they don’t like Irvin being beat up by Tackles ? I thought it sounded like they wanted him to be more of a specialist pass rusher and maybe restrict his snaps?

I also caught that vibe. It seems like they want Irvin to play a role more similar to Carl Lawson. Can't imagine they'd want a part-time rusher for $8+ million, though.

Yall reading way to much into this public coach and gm talk. They are under contract, they are raiders, gruden isn't gonna say anything bad about them or he don' want them. All 3 may be back all 3 may not. I just read that they still trying to get 2 of them to restructure. Reggie doesn't structure his contracts so he have to pay the high total on the last 1 or 2 years of the deal.

To me the part, where Gruden told that he played a difficult position, because he is an edge player and they asked him to play over(to me it means cover) TE's and over the OT (to me this means 5-6 tech) was telling. Then he also said that he is a good pass rusher, with good effort and they will help him to do what he is at his best.

To me this means he will be out at 7-9 tech and mainly just rush the passer and obviously keep the edge vs the run.

I might be wrong here, but that is how I "translate" this and the fact that we keep him at his price tag.

So right now the DL looks like Mack-NT-Edwards-Irvin with Hester, Ward as depth behind Mario (and Eddie possibly on PUP). In this scenario I can't really see Autry back. Calhoun could be a solid depth player at DE if he can finally step up a bit, but we still need some rotational DE help. Chris Smith could be a good option IMO, since he is familiar with PG already. Ellis could be back IMO and he could be fine with a rotational guy...Latham should get at least a rookie opponent for TC tho.

Agree. It's coach/gm speak. Bottom line, they want them back "at the right price" which is Reggie's MO.

Irvin wasn’t covering TEs though?

I read it that they want him to be fresh to rush the passer and avoid him being worn down by beat up on run downs.

Does Guenther use 7-9tech DE’s?

But Irvin rarely, if ever, lined up head-up on tackles and tight ends (he sometimes lined up directly on tackles if he had man responsibility). He always lined up at 6 tech or wider in a two-point stance. There isn't a better position for him on any defense than what he does in Oakland if he's the pass rusher everyone makes him out to be.

No it sounds like they don't want him on the strong side getting beat up by TE's and they want to add an inside presence.

So who is he going to line up against who'd be easier to deal with than a TE if he's going to play edge full time?

Huge cap number and he's been progressively worst since 2012.

Wonder what this means for Suh? His cap figure is like 24 mil or something crazy.

I think this pushes the narrative that the Dolphins are looking to get out of the Suh business. They were talking about how much cap they've been using on the DL.. then trade for Quinn? I dont think there's any way they keep Suh now, but are likely waiting to trade Landry before making that kind of move.
