I’m guess that Jefferson will sign a 5 year, $150M contract. The amount of guaranteed money is where he’ll separate from other top paid receivers.

The editor of Pro Football Talk Michael David Smith proposed 5 years, $155 million. It is $1 million more in average annual value than Hill’s deal and $15 more than Adam’s total value. I think the value of $31 million on an annual basis is spot on for being the best wide receiver in football.

The tricky thing here is the total length being five years. I think the Vikings will definitely want a longer-term deal for both flexibility and to ensure Jefferson remains a Viking for a long time.

Justin Jefferson puts grown men on the unemployment line.

He's such a special player, and the only WR in the league who I think can challenge Moss and Rice for the title of GOAT.

There's definitely something special about him. He's more Rice than Moss, and he has a long way to go to catch either of them, but if he keeps working and stays healthy, he's going to be in that conversation.

The NFL has such a wealth of talent at the position right now. It's a golden age for wide receivers. If Ja'mar Chase, Tyreek Hill, Stefon Diggs, Cooper Kupp and Davante Adams all stay healthy, they'll all have their busts in Canton someday.

Lamb, Waddle, Metcalf, AJ Brown, and a few others could be knocking on that door too.

I don't want to be accused of jumping on the hype train, but Jefferson has the opportunity to best receiver ever.  I think he has Moss like talent and Rice like work ethic.  Yes, it's early in his career...but the fact that he regularly beats double coverage, not with elite speed (he's fast enough) but with a combination of extraordinary body control for contested receptions, and elite ability as a route runner.  The body control is something he was born with (in my opinion).  His route running is the result of discipline and dedicated work on his craft.  I think he's the only possibility of a non-quarterback winning league MVP this year.  And, I think that possibility grows every game!!

I don't know how he is going to get paid after his rookie contract.  I suspect that it will be a record breaker for a receiver.

Micah Parsons should be in the MVP discussion too.

I tend to lump WRs into four categories based on style with performance.    JJ has all the tools . . . And the early results speak volumes.

My four categories are:

1.  Jerry Rice/Larry Fitzgerald/Santonio Holmes . . . Guys with exceptional smarts and above-average physical traits.   Work ethic, studying, being the PhD in the room put these guys on SB teams . . . Just need JJ to get there; I beleive he takes care of the rest.

2.  Randy Moss / Keyshawn Johnson / DK Metcalf . . . Physically superior athletes who dominated at times, but could have been even better.

3.  Cris Carter / Anquan Bolden / Adam Theilen . . . Strong physical frames, great hands, not the fastest of burners -- but 100% reliable.

4.  Julian Edelman / Hunter Renfrew . . . Smaller, quick guys with great hands and a knack for making the right play at the right time.

JJ is proving to be generational - sign the man as the highest paid WR in football . . . Do not let him leave!

The dilemma is on defense . . . We cannot fall into the Denny Green trap.   Have to find a way to keep that core and improve depth.

An easier answer would be to draft a couple QBs to replace Cousins.  Even if he wins us a SB, we need the future . . . Look to guys like Hendon Hooker, Cameron Ward, and Mark Gronowski (especially if he leads the Jacks to our 1st national title).

Q: Is Justin Jefferson back on track to win the Offensive Player of the Year award?

A: Yes and no. Jefferson bounced back emphatically from the awful Cowboys experience, tabulating 9 receptions for 139 yards and a touchdown against New England.

But Tyreek Hill is still the frontrunner by a whisker to win Offensive Player of the Year. Per sportsbooks, Hill has +250 odds to win the award, whereas Jefferson is at +275 as of November 26th.

It’s a two-horse race. If Jefferson avoids quiet games among the next six contests, he’ll win the thing.

Peter King: "Hard to imagine any receiver in football being as important to his team—including Tyreek Hill—as Jefferson is to the 9-2 Vikings. Next Gen has him on the field for 413 of the Vikings’ 424 pass attempts, more than any receiver in football. And the other thing about Jefferson’s impact is his ability to read and react and get separation on Kirk Cousins’ favorite throw: the cross route. Cousins, per Next Gen, leads all NFL quarterbacks with 50 completions on the crossers, and here’s where the Next Gen tracking devices really shine: Jefferson averages 5.2 yards of separation from the nearest defender on the crossing routes."

"When quarterbacks are drafted out of college football, they’re almost always told: Covered in the college game is open in the NFL. Well, with Jefferson, even when everyone knows the ball is coming to him, he still manages to get separation and find a way to get the ball. This is a special player."

Hill and Jefferson seem pretty neck and neck statistically. Hill has 6 more catches and 1 more yard, Jefferson has 1 more TD.

While they'd probably say it won't matter, when you look at the team around each player, the Vikings have a better record than the Dolphins and their 2nd leading receiver has nearly 1K yds while the Vikings 2nd leading receiver doesn't even have 600.

Do we run the ball more? How does the Dolphins leading rusher compare to Cook? Can certainly argue that the run game benefits Jefferson in ways it may not for Hill.
