Isn’t the 17 game season unfair since some teams get an extra home game?

I’m surprised there hasn’t been more discussion about this. The sooner the league gets to 18 games the better.

They alternate the extra home game the next year (and even with different matchups, they can pretty much control for this to near-full execution).

Unfair for that year, for sure, but it's meant to be equitable over the long run.

I dislike the game added to the schedule as much as the next guy, but...

everyone in the AFC got an extra home game this year. Everyone in the NFC gets an extra home game next year. There is no effect to standings of significance.

Isn’t home field advantage mostly a myth at this point?

Vegas still gives the home team about a 3 point bump on the line usually.  If Vegas accounts for it, then I believe it makes some sort of difference.  They only move the line a half point to 1 point if a non-QB star player is out.
