Having an exit strategy after two years does not mean you are not still at least overpaying for two years. I thought it was 21M but 18.5 is still a huge overpay for Kirk. Huge. Why didn’t the Jags keep Chark? He is really good. I’m hoping the Raiders sign him.

I can’t even explain how horrendous of a business decision this is. But I’m sure you guys are use to it, it happens every year with the Jags. Poor Lawrence. We didn’t use 21M in cap space. If only we held pat and kept the cap space available for…Russell Gage? Juju?

Juju? How about trying to sign one of your homegrowns? Allen Robinson and DJ Chark. Two very very good wideouts. Instead of a horrendous overpay on an AVERAGE player. This is how bad teams stay bad. Jags fans are strange… instead of being irate that this hurts your team, you are all going to self-defense/justification mode right away. You skipped the outrage step right away. This is a horrible move any way you look at it. Edited March 14, 2022 by BayRaider

Should we feel bad for the billionaire owner? You either need to reread the details, or look into how cap hits work. $20M signing bonus. So tack on $5M to each of those hits. And then that'd be $10M in dead money if cut after two years. Feel bad for the opportunity cost lost by spending this on a player who does not deserve it. No one is saying don't spend the money, they're saying spend it better.

Overpaying guys because you’re current cast sucks is never an excuse to make horrible moves. It will ensure your team stays bad. Should of used the FA Money on a different position and drafted a WR.

Horrible spending and how bad teams stay bad. Jags are the ones who always do this, too. And they wonder why they stay 5-12 every year. Then why does every team who pays their QB end up with just an above-average roster? Super Bowl winners since 2012: 2012: Flacco on a Rookie Contract 2013: Wilson on a Rookie Contract 2014: Tom Brady, his average discount below market value is 30% 2015: Peyton Manning reconstructed his contract to take a 25% discount for this season, allowing Denver to make moves. 2016: Tom Brady, his average discount below market value is 30% 2017: Carson Wentz on a Rookie Contract, Nick Foles on backup money 2018: Tom Brady, his average discount below market value is 30%. 2019: Patrick Mahomes, Rookie Contract. 2020: Tom Brady, his average discount below market value is 30%. 2021: Rams break the norm by going “All In” like a Baseball team. Super Bowl winner has been HIGHLY consistent with a QB on a 25-30% discount or a Rookie QB Contract. Salary cap matters… a lot. Jaguars best year to win a Super Bowl would likely be 2023, because if Lawrence balls out, they have to pay him after 2023. Now they are stuck with Kirk and a huge contract in 2023. They have already sabotaged their window. Why do you think the Chargers are going all in right now in a big way? They gotta pay Herbert next season! Regardless, the further details of this deal shouldn’t be getting near the reaction it is.

El Ramster
The Jags committed a potential $114M to two receivers who combined for 1,528 yards and 6 TDs last year. Calvin Johnson (who once put up nearly 1,700 yards and 16 TDs) made $112M his entire career.
