VigilantZombie
Lmfao. This was unnecessary. Just play better in the first 4 QTRs
Soko
Not a huge needle mover for me, but this is step one to getting to college OT, so…
paul-mac
Correct decision. Should Team 1 now go for 2 if they score a TD? If they go for 2 successfully, they guarantee that the worst that can happen is that it’ll be sudden death and they’ll have the ball. But if they fail to make it, then Team 2 can just go down and score a TD and kick the XP to win. If Team 1 goes for 1, then you almost certainly see Team 2 go for 2.

In OT stop the opposing team on defense and your chance to win with a FG greatly increases.

VigilantZombie
This, to me, is all about the Bills/Chiefs game. Do I believe the Bills win this game if they get the ball first instead of the Chiefs? Yup. Do I think the Bills eventually win if they both get 1 possession minimum? Nope. They'd have scored imo then KC would've just trotted down the field and scored and still won.

notthatbluestuff
Cue mass outrage from the "so defense doesn't matter, huh?" crowd. You see, defense does matter. It matters so much that both teams need to demonstrate that their defense is up to the task of preventing a crucial score - one group shouldn't get off scot-free because they and their red-hot offense had the good fortune to win a coin toss.
Broncofan
Definitely the right move. Playoff results show O’s are just so effective in taking the first possession and scoring. Discussed for over 20+ pages in the Main Forum so no need to rehash, linking it here FTR: But I’ll plant the flag teams and fans won’t look back from this change. May not happen for 2-3 playoffs but it’s a change that sticks going forward. Edited March 29, 2022 by Broncofan
wackywabbit
Dislike this. Especially in the regular season. Just take the tie. Edit: didn't read... this is postseason only? That's even dumber. Don't make the rules different.... Such an edge now to defer in playoff overtime. I used to think that before breathing on a WR wrong could result in a 50 yard spot foul. Considering how much the rules favor the offense and how depleted a defense is after 3+ hours of play, this is the correct decision.

Trentwannabe
I Meh either way. Glad it’s only for the playoffs though. We don’t need 4 1/2 hour regular season games
