Can't imagine to many chomping at the bit to become a OC in name only, not calling plays and most likely looking for another job after McCarthy doesn't fix Dak either and is fired after the 2023 season. I'm not sure how McCarthy calling plays, and less time on HC, and Schotty is an upgrade on Kellen Moore. Im not necessarily defending the hire, but most of those criticisms are really weak. 1) I dont rememeber the 2001 Redskins, but their starting QB was....Tony Banks. 2) Drew Brees may have not been HOF caliber immediately, but if not for his 2004 and 2005 seasons in San Diego, he wouldnt have been one of the most sought after QBs in free agency that year and gotten a huge payday from the Saints to go play under one of he better offensive minds in football. Im not giving Schotty credit for creating Drew Brees, but lets not act like he held him back. Lets also remember that Marty Schottenheilmer loved running the ball and the Chargers had Ladanian Tomlinson. Brees efficiency in 2004 and 05 were similar to his years to come, but he went to a much more pass happy system in New Orleans, which increased his bulk stats. 3) He's blaming Schottenheimer for wasting the offense with Mark Sanchez? Seriously? What offensive coach was going to have a ton of success with Sanchez? 4) Those Rams teams were abysmal and dysfunctional all around. Not all on Schotty. 5) Funny how he only mentions 2017 with the Colts when Andrew Luck was out all year. In 2016, they were top 10, even with a somewhat banged up Andrew Luck. 6) LMAO....some of Russ's best years came during those years. Russ certainly hasnt looked much better since those years. 7) Urban Meyer, rookie QB (even if it was an elite prospect), and one of the least talented teams in the league. Schottenheimer is a flawed coach, and I certainly dont think they should have fired Kellen Moore for him....but those attacks on him with zero context are utterly pathetic. 5 Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
