At this point I’m not ready to give up, but I am ready to consider him adding 20 lbs and trying him at DT. 6’6” and 295 wouldn’t be far off from c Jones or c Campbell. And strength IS one of his best traits.....jus my crazy 2 cents.

He really needs to add some pass rush moves.  The guy just runs at the OL with no plan in mind.  I remember him saying he wanted others to emulate the way he rushes the passer and all I could think of was how he just bull-rushed college OTs and he would just luck out every now and then.  He really needs to get his head out of his butt and ask Crosby for pointers.

I get what you’re saying but I rather keep him at his weight and let him be. Develop his skill set and see how it goes. We did the weight thing with Ferrell and it hurt him imo. By year 4 if he is who he is f it, put on some pounds and see what it can do, as a last ditch effort imo

Let the kid play, then let him train in the offseason, let him show up in TC and see where he is at during preseason and early next season. Then we can start to call for his head or start to move him around...
Luckily Koonce is showing good progress as a pass rush specialist, so with a solid veteran addition we could have a strong EDGE group anyway...

Focus on the DT position on the DL!

I agree, I was merely saying as a last resort. I’m totally ok with giving him more time. Fwiw I do want to see him be successful.👍

I'd keep him on standby

If we can't manage to land a quality DT in the draft, move him and start Koonce or something.

If we do, leave him at DE for now- though I really don't think his future is as a DE in 2023 and beyond NFL.

Missing all of our OTAs, preseason, camp as a raw prospect certainly didn't do him any favors. And obviously guys can improve but I think most of the time you see pass rushers flash early and often, he just looks so damn slow.

Was just thinking about this and I tend to pay a lot of attention to the Dline as I enjoy that aspect of the team and watching his first few games and looking at his play height, his pass rush moves or lack thereof, his hands, his counter moves and it dawned on me that he was about where a guy like David Agoha is which is frankly astounding 😲

I don't think the issue any more is get-off, as that has improved (though it's still pedestrian) but he basically just bulls straight ahead, no counters, no jab then swim, no spins, no nuance at all. He's obviously got measurables, but doesn't have a clue how to functionally use them apart from just bull rushing a guy. I'd expect it from a guy like Agoha who only started playing in 2022 but this kid was at a decent programme and was at Texas in 2018!!!

Obviously hoping he improves and can work on his craft but at this stage I'd love to see him add a few wrinkles to his pass rush but we've not seen anything really over the last 4 or 5 weeks which may be concerning. As you say, we should see some eye opening flashes by now to justify his high draft stock. When is it time to start getting concerned?

What really baffles me is the angles that he takes. It’s evident he has no moves in which he changes direction from his initial angle. But he always goes dead ahead - never outside or inside - just totally straight. It’s bizarre!

The once or twice the ball has coincidentally gone to a place which has provoked him to move inside or outside the olineman/TE, he invariably shrugs them off and has even made a play or two against the run. I just don’t know why he doesn’t at least just aim to the shoulder of his opposite man. It’s just hands up, aim straight and push hard. Maddening!

Yeh, I see that too. Maybe we should try him on a stunt too, you would think after 10 or 11 weeks he’d have had time to add one counter move or as you say a step right before attacking left to change he angle, just something………….very strange!

If his snaps vs kc are lower than Mia it shows that he’s not progressing fast enough and can’t really wait. Carter better catch a body soon to justify this pick. I can only imagine Carter and Maxx.

He's too small to play DT(which was another thing I didn't like about us drafting him)

He should be trending the other way really at around week 10/11, we all know he needs time and is raw but the questions are how much time does he need and how raw was he?

Keeping an eye on the snap counts for the next few weeks................

He was probably out of shape at the beginning part of the season because he had a broken foot but you’re right, he needs to flash more.

there’s a video floating around the Internet and it has all of his snaps. He does try to do swims moves a few times here and there.
