The 49'ers may not look good, but.....

They drafted 2 QB's, one in the 1st and one in the 7th.

One worked out, one didn't.

The one that worked out gets paid a mere fraction of the one that didn't.

Now, they lost some draft capital in the deal.

But, if Lance had made it no one would complain.

They can make up a small amount of the draft capital with the money saved over the short term.

It isn't as bad a proposition when you look at the whole thing.

This is 100% correct.

However we are still Assuming Purdy is not only the real deal but the real deal post Tommy John? Not sure with that particular surgery,  we should be assuming anything at this point about him being the FQB they thought Lance would be when drafted.

Maybe so, but draft picks in football are like draft picks in fantasy.
Don't think so?
The Patriots won six Super Bowls between the time 2000 and 2019.

The 49'ers appear to have made up the gap with late (un-traded) picks, FA's and UDFA's, just like the Patriots.
They are the second best team in the NFC.
And don't give me the, "but they could have had this guy or that guy" argument.
If everybody had that knowledge, Tom Brady would have gone #1 overall.

Also, this can go in the Howie Roseman thread.

This doesn't increase the pressure on Lance and that could be a detriment in a different way.

The issue with him is that the Cowboys have been reluctant to anoint Prescott as the savior.

Now, Prescott has to look over his shoulder.

His mental tenacity is what has been in question and now fuel has been added to the fire.

Does he press with the fear that his successor has been named?

I mean, he's no Aaron Rodgers.

Eagles  13-4
Giants  10-7
Cowboys  9-8
Redmanders  7-10

anyone?

I don't know. I just don't see it phasing Dak much. He has been the QB of the Cowboys for 7 years and in many of those years there has been some kind of drama professionally and/or personally happening that is heavily covered in the media. He has handled it all quite well and Cowboys are mostly a playoff team with him. He needs to prove himself more in the post season but he tends to get them to the race.

Trey Lance is not threat to Dak right now and everyone knows it. We can joke and troll but if we keeping it real, that is just the truth. Trey is QB3 and if things go as planned -- will never see the field this year. They can spend this year building his confidence back and actually providing him coaching who want to see him succeed. Will it work out? Time will tell but even if he just manages to be a quality backup -- that is a major win for Dallas.

I think Eagles will still win the division and make a deep playoff run but I also think Cowboys is still their biggest threat. Though the whole NFC East will be great again.

Winning solves a lot of issues. This trade was one of the worst in NFL history but despite it they have been to the NFCC 3 out of 4 years. So really? It is what it is. I do think it is dangerous to put all their eggs in the Prudy basket but even if he is just another Jimmy G, that is fine. They can win with that. They have won with less.

It is hard to tell because he hasn't played for a number of reasons. Reason number one being the Niners think he sucks at this point. The guy couldn't beat out Darnold for a backup QB spot....

This is just a complete hubris move made by a coach I don't believe in. Sure he could be good one day I suppose, but if I were a betting man I would bet that he won't be.

It is undoubtedly one of the worst picks in NFL history given what they gave up to get him and the lack of playing time and production he had.  That said, he still has very good physical traits and could salvage his career in Dallas.  He's going from arguably the hardest offense to learn in the NFL to one of the easiest.

From any perspective you look at this SF comes out looking incompetent.  They bet big on a QB with limited experience and shoved him into a scheme that he's not well suited to run and then traded him for less than pennies on the dollar to one of their closest competitors.

If their goal is to win a Super Bowl, then he better be more than just another Jimmy G.  They still haven't won one with KS as their head coach, so no they haven't won with less.
