Week 3 GDT: Raiders vs. Steelers - Waitin' all day for a Sunday Night

No idea who wins.. I’ll say Raiders due to being the home opener and also the Steelers coming off a day less of rest. Talent wise I think the teams are similar.

I’m expecting Jacobs to finally go off right? Third game now, and a bad run defense. And at home.

After a week of "the sky is falling" talk, it's time for redemption......

+ Can the Raiders get the offense clicking after the first series?

+ Will Hunter Renfrow be involved in the game plan?

+ Can Jimmy G push the ball downfield to open the offense up?

+ Can Jacobs knock off the rust against a beatable defense?

+ Can the Oline open lanes and hold off a premier pass rusher in TJ Watt?

+ Will the defense be a get right game for Pickett?

+ Can they win the LOS on defense and apply pressure?

+ Will the defense create any turnover?

Let's get that W...... Just win baby!

Let’s get to the root of the issue: Mark Davis. Good management would have gotten this team in shape years ago. Mark hires controversial people that are projected to fail. Gruden, McDaniels. I also think McKenzie was a horrendous GM hire, and Dennis Allen a horrible HC hire. Sell the f’n team. Sell it to the casinos. They will make sure it’s a quality product that attracts more people to Vegas.

Mark hired the wrong McDaniels... Wish we had Mike

I'd like to say we'll see some big shakeup but I don't trust McDaniels to do it.

Biggest thing with the offense that I see is we need a fast start. The quicker we take the ball out of Najee and Jaylen's hands and put the game on Pickett's shoulders the better. He has been atrocious so far this year and if we can keep Pickens in check we have a shot. If Minkah is out, there's no reason our passing game shouldn't feast, especially Tae. They have no one who can match up with him. Jimmy is smart and decisive with the ball so that should neutralize some of TJ Watt's all world ability. We get them to respect the passing game and then hopefully JJ can see some 5/6 man boxes and do his thing.

Defensively, I don't know. We're lacking talent so badly that a "bend don't break" philosophy seems best. They have 2 mammoths for TEs in Freiermuth and Washington so I expect Maxx will get chipped and doubled all game. And if they get an early lead, they're built for power running and could pound us inside.

And for the love of God, give Silvera a chance. He can't possibly be worse than the guys in our current DT rotation

I disagree, Mark did a great job getting the Las Vegas deal done, brilliant.

Dennis Allen was hired as a stop gap as there was no reputable coach that was going to take that job with the complete and utter tear down that the team needed after the Al Davis era. He just gave a young coach a shot.

Reggie McKenzie for all his draft misses actually did a lot I think to start the turnaround and was a good initial hire. It’s easy to forget what a state we were left in. I liked the JDR hire and we were seemingly headed in the right direction.

I didn’t like the Gruden hire at all and Mark was impulsive there and got it wrong - though I don’t think he could have known what would go down in that one chaotic year with Ruggs, Gruden and Arnette.

I didn’t like the McDaniels hire as I wanted Harbaugh or David Shaw but we’re still only part way through this experience.

I like Mark as an owner, has he made some bad choices? Yes, absolutely. But I believe he’s got integrity and I wouldn’t want the team owned by some faceless corporate conglomerate.

We need to start drafting well, when that happens we’ll be a good team again and compete.

You are playing a bit of hindsight here.

Starting with McKenzie who is and was a well respected FO figure in Green Bay. He was endorsed by several people to Mark. That said, I hated that Mark's first GM search, he literally interviewed nobody else, just took Reggie at face value on endorsement from his circle. McKenzie coach hire was awful in Allen. Then Mark took over and strapped him with Del Rio.

Gruden was a wanted guy for a long time, right or wrong. Mark being a fanboy, he just jumped at the chance. The only positive was the 10 year contract. Basically assured some consistency in the organization until the email scandal. The Mayock hire was and will be laughably bad.

McDaniels, same boat. He's been a coveted guys for years. Bears, Giants and Vikings showed interest in him but he wanted the right spot. For him, anything less than winning was going to get him scrutinized due to his past. And that is where we are at.

I think Mark is a passionate owner. He lets his people do their thing, but he just can't get the right people. This organization lacks talent and has for 2 decades. You need people who know how to find and develop talent. Because until that happens, the losing culture can't shift.

I will say this about Mark Davis. It's refreshing to have a piece of the old guard left in NFL ownership. Guy is passionate about what his father built, loves the brand and the players. I would not feel the same about the Raiders if some billionaire casino tycoon owned them.

Let's do an over/under:

+ Jimmy G - 250 passing yards - Under

+ Renfrow - 3 catches - Under

+ Jacobs - 110 yards rushing - Under

+ 40+ yard plays - 2 - Under

+ Defense - 3 sacks - Under

+ Pickett - 62% completion rate - Over

+ Defense - 1 turnover - Even

+ 20 points scored  - Under

Bonus:

+ Carr is mentioned in this thread 8 times - Over

I think our offense is going to struggle.  Mainly because it hasn't really done much the first two weeks.  We don't have any 40-yard plays on offense yet.  Our longest pass has gone for 25 yards.  Renfrow has 1 reception over a two-game span.  Jacobs is averaging 23 yards per game.  Jimmy G is averaging 193 yards passing per game.  Pretty sure we haven't gotten a turnover yet.  We've scored 3 TDs in two games.  We're averaging 2 sacks per game (the Steelers have given up 7 sacks in two games, but they were against better defenses than ours).

I really don't see us doing well until we actually do well.  I still hope we can pull out a win, I'm just not a huge believer in us being a good team this year.

Still, Raiders win 17-16.

No savior is coming through that door unfortunately. I guess the big thing with Moehrig is lack of big plays

Same. He's just a guy out there. In fact, the TD pass he gave up to Gabe Davis was the type play a better safety picks off. Allen did what Allen does, through it across his body and Moehrig almost looked like he just conceded the catch to Davis. He made little attempt to make a play on the ball.
