The Good

The win! I really, really enjoyed that game...........I know some in the game day thread thoughty it was awful and maybe I've had a few too many bangs in the head, but I love a good old fashioned arm wrestle of a match where one or two plays and decisions are critical. We weren't pretty but we beat a very hard team to beat.

Jermaine Elumuenor - was he great? No. Did he make mistakes and get beat a few times? Yes. But overall considering the Jets have an elite front 7 and he's switching sides at short notice I thought he did a fine job, about aswell as we could expect.

Robert Spillane - I just like this guy, not an elite athlete by any means, not drafted but just an old school kind of LB and he looks like a Raider should too. We may have found our MLB guys after all these years, though he does have his faults he's clearly a guy that makes plays and if we can get him a good DT in front he'll look even better.

Josh Jacobs - another good game, man does he make so many extra yards after contact. Always turns a 1 yard loss into a 1 yard gain and just wears on a defence. Great to se him put a ton up.

Jacobi Meyers - great YAC and one excellent block, team player who's been a great addition. Adams was very good too with a couple crucial grabs.

Bo Hardegree - Considering he's just been thrown in at the deep end with a rookie QB and below average Oline he's doing really well. Mixed up the play calling well, varied the targets and the 4th down call with Carter was brilliant! The only think I'd really criticise is at the end of the 1st half we had a 2nd and 13 I think and then a 3rd and 18 and I'd have liked to see a screen or something just to claw back a few yards, keep us in FG range and not put the rookie QB under pressure.

O'Connell - spekaing of which, i though he did really well after a bit of a rough start. We all know he's holding the ball a bit too long but he's ot afraid to trust his guys and looks quite composed out there. His lack of athleticism really hurts at times but he came up big withthe TD throw. He needs game time and still too early to tell if he's any more than a backup.

Coaching overall - going for it on 4th down showed trust in the team, took FGs at the right times. Great to see us moving the ball with less than a minute left before the half rather than kneeling it out. No egregious decisions and it seems like for an inexperienced coaching team they are growing together. It's still too early to tell if they're right for the future but they're not doing themselves any harm so far.

Thought Hobbs and Hall did well once Amik was out, they were tested a bit but didn't make any bad mistakes.

STs - All Pro punter and Pro Bowl kicker. Also Carter did well on returns and we limited their returns too. ST's played a major role in winning this one.

The Bad

Pass rush - still no real push from the DTs, and disappoointing that we didn't see either of the rookies out there. The DTs weren't terrible and were reasonably solid against the run but if we could just get an impact DT we'd be cooking. I struggle to put Maxx Crosby in here as he's always 100% effort and always is involved in the play but he did seem like he was trying a bit too hard. Maybe he was still good but I thought he was overplaying a bit. Koonce showed flashes too but it seemed like we should have had a 4 or 5 sack game and let the QB get away too often.

Andre James - had a bit of a tough outing, was dominated by Quinnen Williams inside a few times plus a couple penalties I think. Tough day at the office. The whole Oline struggled a bit but then again, they were playing a great front 7.

Marcup Peters - another day, another whiffed tackle or three. Plus he's playing really far off the WRs maybe due to lack of confidence in his speed but it's negating his one major asset, his ball hawking.

Tackling was a bit off I thought too, too many misses for my liking.

Our last drive - I thought it was a big mistake to gift them an extra TO by not running the ball on 3rd down or even trying a screen pass maybe if you're going to throw it.

The last play was nearly a disaster, bit of over eagerness by the Dline and that was very nearly a catch in the end zone.

The Ugly

The Amik injury was not good to see, when a guy goes down and his arms are stil upo like that it's not good. Hope he's Ok as he's a fighter.

good breakdown.

  • James did man handled a few times, but Q Williams is an all pro. I thought our OL played good, and offense was solid. Jets might have the best defense in the league
  • Peters needs to be benched or moved to safety. I actually think he could be a good FS like Charles Woodson late career with his declining speed, ball skills, instincts.  I would rather see Tyler Hall or Sam Webb get some run
  • It was nice to see Mayer moss someone. There been questions about his athletic ability, but he looked like a good athlete there.
  • Tyree Wilson - was hoping to see him get some pressures as a top 10 pick. He was a ghost
  • DL- jets played 2nd and 3rd string OL/ was hoping to see the DL play better. We need to add more talent in this unit next offseason

People thought I was crazy saying we could win 10 games. May not get there but coaching cost us at least 2-3 games

If I remember correctly, I said I wanted to see 9 wins to buy in.

I think 9 is perfectly attainable for this current group. 8 will probably be the sweet spot, and this squad probably could have gone 11-6 without the idiot.

The way we played, LA, Pittsburgh, and Chicago should have been wins, and it's not a leap to say we could have beat Detroit.

In an alternate reality, we fired Josh after looking garbage against Buffalo and we're probably 8-2  or 9-1 right now.

Tough sledding, too, as we're not far from Cincy, Buffalo, etc. Seeds 5-7 are totally within reach for us, but we have a slim margin of error compared to a lot of other current 5 win teams. We're probably going to miss the playoffs by a single game. Looking at the standings, it genuinely hurts to think about the losses we've had this year and what led to them.

I honestly hope we somehow pull it off and make the playoffs this year though, just so we can look back one more time and recognize just how big of a fail Josh McDaniels is.

Thoughts on Graham's defense, which is why the team is improved as a whole? I said they'd be middle of the pack this year. You labeled me a Graham fanboy, think you owe him a least some respect given the job he's done with marginal talent.

Middle of the pack, or barely beaten 5 of the worst Os in the league? 😉🍺🍻

My honest thoughts? He still sucks nuts as a playcaller on D, our coverage schemes are sloppy AF, nobody has shown real, tangible improvement, tackling is poor to mid at best.

We're currently 8th vs the Pass but we've played Kenny Pickett, Jordan Love, some guy named Tommy DeVeto, Zach Wilson, Tyson Bagent, and Mac Jones for the bulk of our season and none of them looked particularly atrocious outside of that DeVito waterboy despite most of them almost assuredly not being unchallenged incumbents next year.

On the flip side of that masked "good", we're about league average in points against.....boy have we played a murderers row of potent offenses, too, amirite? We're talking Nick Cannon levels of potency 🙄

Beyond that, we're near league bottom vs the run- this despite playing a literal Ringer squad when it comes to quarterback rooms.

We're also pretty close to league bottom in stopping teams on 3rd down- again, despite the QBs we've played.

Considering the offenses we've played, if ANYONE is benefitting from the weak schedule we've played, it's Patrick Graham. Homeboy isn't getting my respect or any credit for beating up on USFL practice squad QBs. Now that our offense isn't a gaping, festering, malignant liability run by an arguably worse playcaller than Patrick Graham, our D is back to being acknowledged as the weaker link.

I believe the fact that Antonio Pierce and Bo Hardigree are outshining Patrick Graham at their respective positions that were totally new to them and obtained under the worst of circumstances says a lot about Patrick Graham - as he's always shown, he can have a rare one-off against bad opponents, but he doesn't consistently do a good job.

McDaniels and the offense being so incredibly broken has bought Graham way too much leeway and goodwill. The fact a change- one I said should be made (in fact, I like a year ago to ****can Graham and make AP the DC)- has turned around the offensive side of the ball tells me what I need to know about Graham. He was a nepo hire, and got insulated by not being on the offensive side of the ball when the axe fell. As usual, he's getting a pass from a lot of people for actually accomplishing something just below the bare minimum.

Not allowing Tommy DeVito to look like Joe Montana doesn't erase allowing Baker Mayfield to march down the field in a minute with 24 hours notice, allowing Kyler to run for ages on 4th down multiple times, lining Cle up at CB, Ring Around the Mahomie, and the other utter embarrassments he's given us.

The day he, too, is sent packing is the day I'll finally believe in a long term vision and future for this franchise.

Yea but not every defense is playing like this either. As for the stepping out of bounds we could say the same thing about Jacob's fumbling

Jets forced those fumbles. Wilson took a big step to leap and his foot was out. That was at the beginning at the game, so as I said the game could have gone differently.

Agree. this was a panned signing this offseason because he wasn't a household name but he's been the best LB addition in FA arguably. Guy is nails.

He misses a lot of tackles, but point blank the guy has a nose for the ball. Doesn't have the physical attributes a guy like Perryman did but he's more well rounded.

Maxx, Moerhig, Amik, Koonce, Deablo have all improved under PG

Maxx was Maxx.

Koonce wasn't let on the field.

Deablo has been out.

Moehrig is still pretty mid.

Amik has flashed, but he's still inconsistent.

That said, thank you for naming 5 names. Hard to say Graham has "nothing to work with" only to then have half the defense as good/improved.

Really hope we find a way to keep Graham, continuity is vital. I’m still on the fence with AP, these next two weeks will be huge measuring sticks.

Agreed Graham has done a good job this year so far. I’d like to keep him and keep building the defense. We have some pieces but keep needing to add talent. DT, CB are positions we need top talent at.

Generally the case when you have poor and mid talent on the field as I've continued to argue with you. Testament to doing more with less as a DC.

And the QB excuses kind of miss me when this defense was making scrubs look like all pros a year ago and letting Matt Ryan run for 37 yards.
