It's 2 bigs, 2 edges, 2 stack LBs, and 5 DBs.   But this is every defense, and the difference between "4-3" and "3-4" is "do the edges drop."

I'd argue his "base" defense is his nickel (2-4-5).  It seemed like he ran the majority of the plays in that formation.  But I also wouldn't say it's a traditional 4 down lineman defense either.  There were plenty of times where both EDGE were in a two-point stance or a 3-point stance, and there were some where one was in a two-point stance while the other was in a 3-point stance.

I'm not sure there's much useful data we can glean from his time at Boston College.

I would agree.  There's a very distinct talent gap in the ACC.  You've got Clemson, Miami, and Florida State that pretty much have unlimited resources to recruit whoever they want.  According to 247, Boston College ranked 16th (out of 17), 11th (out of 14), and 6th in the last 3 seasons in recruiting rankings.

I think the switch also had to do with available talent and what the rest of the league was doing. Being in the minority scheme allowed you to draft good fits later. Iirc

Yes, at the time there were far fewer 34 fronts, and it hadn't quite ticked over to playing nickel as base yet either.  I believe at the time it was just the Steelers, and Chargers, with teams like Dallas and New England playing a 43 over.  I also believe that we were the only team in the division not running some form of the Tampa-2 at that time.

Feels like a 2 point stance vs a 3 point stance should be more of a what allows the player to perform best from.  I am not really sure there is a consistent advantage of an EDGE player being in a 2 vs 3 point stance.

Maybe he chose to go there over GB. GB broke their news first, so maybe we will never know for sure?

This is something fans must always keep in the back of their minds. For many (not all, but many) GB has to financially overreach not just for players, but for coaches, to woo them when there are equitable opportunities elsewhere, I’m sure.

Not saying that’s what happened here, but it’s possible
