I have watched quite a bit of UFL/XFL, and I honestly can't tell.  I think the STs are still mostly WRs, DBs, TEs, and LB.  If you kept up with my UFL threads, former Packer Darrius Shepherd is phenomenal at this type of kick off.  Now, he is what they call a AAAA player in baseball, so he might just be way better than everyone he is playing against.  But watching how he works bodes well for Keisean Nixon, IMO.  They move pretty similarly, but Keisean is a little bit faster.  The kickoff plays a lot like an end-around or a WR screen, at least in the UFL. I guess we will get to see what the NFL kickoff teams do.  I mostly watched the Battlehawks, who have Sheppherd, but they seem to start at about the 40.  There are returns, but surprisingly few TDs.  My guess is that trend continues, and the better returners will get their team to the 40 or so, but there won't be a ton of kick return TDs.

My thought, which means nothing, is the guys only have to run 20 - 30 yards in coverage now. Almost feels like that lends itself to more TE, LB type of guys.

For returns, it almost feels like you'd want a few fat guys in the middle, but can they retreat fast enough to be in position to clear those oncoming guys out?

That is the only intrigue for me regarding the new rule. As a whole, I hate it.

Personally, get rid of all returns, punters and kickers. You can only punt from shotgun formation and the punter has to be a running back or quarterback, lined up to run a play. No kickoffs, field goals or extra points. Gives teams three more roster spots.

I’m going to save this for a new forum game show called “Name That Poster!”

If I remember correctly, in the old kickoff formation, the only times I saw an OL/Real Big Boy on the unit they were always lined up on the last two or so defenders in front of the returner(s). Dan Connolly in particular. I can come up with two theories as to why they were placed there and not at the front;

1. Men of such size working in such open-field conditions are better off advancing in a single direction forward as opposed to running towards the end zone, then turning 180 and trying to zero in on a target.

2. The OL serves best as someone who can more or less escort the returner for the first ten-plus yards before engaging the first defender he can reach, and in the process create a sort of wedge from which the returner can find daylight.

OL who can effectively block in the open field are not a dime a dozen commodity.

And they are often starters, so how aggressive do teams want to be with starters on special teams?

My recollection of when the fat guys were taken off the return teams was when they outlawed forming a wedge for the returner.

A light but good summary of Clements and his impact on the Packers’ QB room over the years and today. It will be interest he decides to hang it up after this season and if Mannion will be his successor.

That's a good article ..  there was also another out there that I can't seem to locate that involved his history with other QBs like Jake Delhome and a couple others .. all guys that had their best seasons under his tuteledge.  He's a gem.

I don't blame him, when I read that stupidity on here, I just roll my eyes and move on. Most of the stat boys will never figure it out though.

It is a fantasy football centric question.  There are a lot of football fans that care more about their fantasy team than any real team.  Matt is trying to win real games, guys looking for the number 1 WR just want to know if Doubs is going to get 10 targets or if it will be Jayden Reed.

I'm in a draft Thursday night. Doubs or Reed?
