@Mind Character does Hurst’s age not bother you at all?

Dude should be signing his second contract, not his first.

With him I just ask myself would I think it a good move if we had to give up a 2nd round pick to sign a pro bowl impact ultra talented 25 year old Restricted Free Agent TE to a 4 year deal for 8Mil with 4Mil guaranteed.

Ultimately, it also really makes sense because I think he's going to be a star right out the gate.

He plays mature, has been a professional before (baseball), and on the youngest team in NFL history he's too good/valuable to pass up.

While I would tend to agree with you on the age thing almost every time, he'll be a good player for 7-8 years in the league...if he's that for us...it worked out.

You lost me on drafting 2 RBs and 2 TEs in the 2nd. Spread the wealth a bit to other positions.

Also (bit of sour grapes) how does Mind get away with mocking 2 TEs and I take a bomber squadron worth of flak for saying we should pick Troy Fumagalli in the 3rd/4th?!?!?

That is all

lol

Well...I liked the Fumagalli pick

You guys have to open up your minds a little bit to the possibilities of offensive football.

The goal is to put the best talent on our roster that has a chance for high impact, as well as surround our young QB with the talent to succeed.

But first....Who's our leading rusher next year? Do we have a RB that defenses have to account for? Crowell will be gone and Duke is more WR than RB at this point. Matthew Dayes isn't close to the talent of Sony Michel and Penny.

So, we'd basically have no RB1 after crow leaves. In this league, you don't need 1...you need 2 to create a force from the RB position. We see that in new orleans, jacksonville, atlanta, new england, etc. Michel and Penny would give us a potent 1, 2 punch that our QB can rely on.

As far as 2 TEs, don't get so caught up in the position name. Hayden Hurst is more WR/HB than TE just like Evan Engram w/ with the Giants. That means he'll play out wide or from the slot position like Engram does.

Including the OL, QB, and RB that only accounts for 7 of the 11 men on the field for the offense.

Typically people assume 2 of the remaining 4 will be WRs, 1 will be a TE, and 1 will be a FB.

What if instead we put 2 WRs and 2 TEs on the field. Or in a  jumbo WR 3rd down set have 1 WR and 3 TEs

For example:

Our Base Pass Catcher Set

QB Sam Darnold (Alex Smith // AJ Mccaron)

RB Rashaad Penny (Sony Michel // Duke Johnson)

WR Josh Gordon

WR Terrelle Pryor (Corey Coleman)

WR/TE David Njoku

WR/TE/HB Hayden Hurst (Mark Andrews)

---This gives us a size and speed advantage.

Jumbo Pass Catcher Set and 3rd and short pass package

QB Sam Darnold (Alex Smith // AJ Mccaron)

RB Rashaad Penny (Sony Michel // Duke Johnson)

WR Josh Gordon (Terrelle Pryor // Corey Coleman

TE Mark Andrews

WR/TE David Njoku

WR/TE/HB Hayden Hurst

--Who's getting a jump ball or bodying up any of these massive jump ball specialist...oh did I mention they're all very fast

Bosko's Mock

I would hate all of this except the Trumaine signing, Darnold (don't love, don't hate), Guice (but we don't get enough to move down that far IMO), Davis, and Miller.

I have no idea on how a plan to immediately compete starts with Darnold. McCarron would need an EPIC supporting cast to hit 9-7 and I don't if this super young roster is ready for that.

Richardson and Pryor as flyers make sense, but somebody is going to pay Landry WAAAAAY more than he's worth. We have a better version of him on the team already in Duke.

Love the rest of your 1st/2nd round moves (although, again, not sure how making moves for future picks fits your 9-7 ASAP motto.

9-7 was supposed to be a joke..

The future picks were not the goal but acquired only b/c Saquon Barkley was off the board and QB hungry teams might be wiling to give us a value offer we can't refuse.

I'm at the point in reviewing players games where I only want our second 1st round pick to be used on Carlton Davis or Joshua Jackson. not Chubb or strong safety Minkah Fitzpatrick. So, to accomplish that it seems a trade down makes sense.

Gotcha.

I'm just not with you on Minkah. I think he's a Jalen Ramsey type. Will do whatever the heck you need him to do in the secondary and for Bama that meant more SS type stuff. I think he tests like Ramsey did at the combine, or better, and ends up being a boundary CB who moves into FS or SCB in certain alignments. But I could be wrong, secondary is not my strongest spot as far as scouting record goes haha.

I hear you.

Oh...I could definitely and easily be wrong on Minkah... I desperately wish I saw Minkah as a CB1 or FS1 as he's my favorite player in the draft in terms of overall intangibles.

He's the hardest player to evaluate in the draft b/c he never plays FS, ranges in the post, cues and jumps a route in the post via eye recognition, and has limited boundary CB stats against elite comp.

I hope I'm wrong on him as I'd love that player on my team, but I know for a fact Jackson and Davis are CB1 and I've identified players I believe are FS1s so I just went with those.

I just don't see it after Hunter Renfrow did him in it exposed his hips and revealed some eye and processing issues that could be problematic at CB. That same year (2016) he got beat in 3 games as a boundary CB where he couldn't locate the ball and let the WRs get on top of him and stack him easily.

He does his best work in the box and performs really good in other roles that Bama puts him in, but I'm not sure he does so at the NFL as he never is put in position to do typical things a FS has to do..

He's so much like Jabrill Peppers to me in that making them a FS takes away the very things they do that are great.

I have said I side with MC on this Minkah debate in the past and I still do, but I would not be totally against the pick if we made it. If Minkah is the pick then Greg Williams had better have a plan in place to use Peppers and Minkah and I believe it can be done with wild success just not how he did it this year with Peppers. Most NFL teams play nickel 70% of the time or more as it is so drafting a stud like Minkah to play a nickel/SS role wouldn't be a bad idea but then we still need to find a true free safety. I believe we have linebacker over load right now with Kirksey, Collins, Schobert and even Burgess would would start on several other teams. In the event of a Minkah pick I believe one of these guys has to go and another one's role would be greatly reduced so that Jabrill Pepeprs could play a LB/SS hybrid role would Minkah plays a NB/SS hybrid role with a true center fielder. Something like:

DE Emmanuel Ogbah/Carl Nassib
DT Larry Ogunjobi/Caleb Brantley
DT Trevon Coley/Danny Shelton
DE Myles Garrett/Ade Aruna/Kemoko Turray
LB Jamie Collins/Christian Kirksey
LB Joe Schobert/James Burgess
NB Minkah Fitzpatrick/Briean Boddy-Calhoun
SS Jabrill Peppers/Derrick Kindred
FS Jessie Bates/Jordan Whitehead
CB Trumaine Johnson/Young QB
CB Jason McCourty/Howard Wilson

1-1. Sam Darnold

1-4. Minkah Fitzpatrick

2-33. Sony Michel

2-35. Michael Gallup

2-60. Jessie Bates

3-65. Young CB

4. Ade Aruna

4 Kemoko Turray

5 Jordan Whitehead

Ridiculously athletic secondary with potential through the roof. Peppers and Minkah can defend the run as well. Howard Wilson is one of the better run defending CBs I remember seeing in a long time and I can't wait for him to get his chance.

Just finished my latest draft.

1rst Sam Darnold QB, USC
Height: 6-4. Weight: 225

We go get the Franchise QB and let him begin learning the NFL with NO PRESURE to start as a rookie. Remember this kid is a Red Shirt Soph…just as young as Deshon Kizer (Who I still want to see how he develops)

1rst Minkah Fitzpatrick, S, Alabama
Height: 6-1. Weight: 203

Toyed with the idea of trading down here with Buffalo to get two more first round picks, but no more of that, we grab a Blue Chipper and solve our issue at FS.

2ndBryce Love, RB, Stanford
Height: 5-10. Weight: 196

The run on Running Backs I think starts early on day 2, with only Barkley going on day 1…we grab a game breaker at RB…I think he runs 4.37 at the combine.

2nd Equanimeous St. Brown, WR, Notre Dame
Height: 6-4. Weight: 205

We need to address the WR position, not only does this add talented polished route runner, he was Kizer’s #1 target at ND…this is two birds with one stone.

2nd Marcus Davenport, DE, UTSA
Height: 6-7. Weight: 256

We address our Pass Rush issues with a Value pick here kid I’ve heard folks say could develop into Myles Garret type of guy. And with both our DE’s missing significant time with injuries, the depth cant hurt.

3rd Anthony Miller, WR, Memphis
Height: 5-11. Weight: 190

One of my Favorite Players in the Draft…great Hands and Great Route runner

4th Rashaad Penny, RB, San Diego State
Height: 5-11. Weight: 220

We add a power back, who was not only the nation’s leading rusher, but a kid who also has as many KR+PR’s TD’s as Christian Kirk. There are always RB's that slip in the draft, and with this year being a really strong year with RB's (Johnson, Chubb, Guice, Michel, Freeman, Harris, Carter, Scott etc) someone slips through the cracks and we open day 3 with selecting him.

4th J.C. Jackson, CB, Maryland
Height: 6-1. Weight: 193

We roll the dice on a kid who has 1rst round talent and measurables to add some talent to our CB position. To go along with offseason free agent acquisition of Trumain Johnson from the Rams. Along with our 4th rounder coming back from last year.

5th Danny Johnson, CB, Southern
Height: 5-9. Weight: 185

Small school CB who I feel is going to be that next small school CB who develops into a nice NFL CB.

5th Marquis Haynes, DPR, Ole Miss
Height: 6-3 . Weight: 229

Adding a DPR who’s built in the Mold of Leonard Little/Elvis Dumerville/Robert Mathis.

6th Richie James, WR, Middle Tennessee
Height: 5-9. Weight: 180

Antonio Brown Clone….he would not be available this low had he not been hurt this year.

7th Kamryn Pettway FB/RB Aub or Kalen Ballage, RB/FB, Arizona State or Height 6-3 Weight 230lbs
Height: 6-0.
Weight: 239

Both Played RB and FB in college, Ballage reminds me of Ronnie Harmon, while Petteway reminds me of Mike Alstot.....both nice hybrid RB/FB/Hback types that will be an asset blocking, running, catching out of the backfield and on special teams.

I've never seen Turray or Aruna....will have to check them out.

I can't find much on Jessie Bates either, but that's a name that's buzzing.

A lot to like about the Mock, and I definitely love Minkah as a player.

However, I'm not sure taking off good personnel like Kirksey or Collins can really be justified unless 1 thinks Minkah is an all-pro game changing player.

Ultimately, you're saying that the combo of:

LB Jamie CollinsORChristian Kirsey, LB Joe Schobert, NCB/NSS Minkah Fitzpatrick, CB Jason Mccourty, CB Trumaine Johnson, FS Jessie Bates, SS Jabrill Peppers

Is Better than the combo of:

LB Jamie Collins, LB Joe Schobert, LB Christian Kirksey, CB Jason Mccourty, CB Trumaine Johnson, FS Jessie Bates, SS Jabrill Peppers

But the real comparison group should actually be one that considers alternative uses of the # 4 pick like:

LB Jamie Collins, LB Joe Schobert, LB Christian Kirksey, CB Joshua Jackson, CB Trumaine Johnson, FS Jessie Bates, SS Jabrill Peppers.

To me, the latter option is by far a better option than trying to change or exclude a personnel strength (our LBs) to force fit a really good player into a nickel scheme that doesn't play to our strengths at the time.

It makes more sense to pass on Minkah, play 3 LBs and use the # 4 pick to go after a boundary CB1 while acquiring additional draft assets.

Sometimes you have to pass on a great player b/c they're not a fit as we would have to pass on 3-4 NT Vita Vae...but the good news is there are impact players available that work for our scheme at a position of need (CB).

Really it all boils down to my belief that Minkah is a great SS and nickel player not a FS or CB1...and unfortunately, that doesn't play to our strengths.

I just dont see too many FA CBs hitting the market and no top 5 CB so if we cant build the Jags style defense (2 shut down CBs) I want to go the NYG route

1) Sam Darnold - QB
1) Bradley Chubb - DE
Trade up
1) Josh Jackson/Carlton Davis - CB
2) Sony Michel - RB
3) BPA OT
4) BPA FS

Free Agency
Terrelle Pryor - WR

Jarvis Landry - WR
AJ McCarron - QB
