The Minnesota Vikings strengthened their defensive line room with the signing of nose tackle Khyiris Tonga off of the Atlanta Falcons practice squad.

A seventh-round pick of the Chicago Bears in the 2021 draft, Tonga played for BYU during his college career. Playing in 10 games last season for the Bears, Tonga netted 24 tackles.

Coming in at a whopping 6’4″ and 338 pounds, Tonga is the epitome of a space-eating defensive tackle. His job coming in will be to backup Harrison Phillips who hasn’t had an official backup all season.

Linebacker Ryan Connelly‘s return to the Vikings active roster was a short one.

Connelly was activated from the physically unable to perform list on Tuesday, but he was placed on waivers by the team Wednesday. The move opened up a roster spot for the team to sign defensive lineman Khyiris Tonga off of the Falcons’ practice squad.

Connelly has been a core special teams player for the Vikings the last two seasons. He could rejoin the team as a member of the practice squad if he clears waivers.

Man, the life of a bottom-of-the-roster/practice squad guy in the NFL has to be stressful. Sure it pays better than flipping burgers, but you never know from week to week where home is going to be. Can't be easy on families.

Not so much news worthy, but 14 teams have already had their backup QB record a statistic for them this season. This doesn't include Indy (Foles just handed the ball off) or Cleveland with Watson set to start by the end of the season.

While that may not seem like much, to me, I think it shows the importance of having a capable backup QB in the NFL.

We do know that, but outside of Covid and a guaranteed playoff spot, we haven't had to use one since 2017.

Head coach Kevin O’Connell said at his Monday press conference that Ty Chandler broke his thumb during the 29-22 win over the Bears. O’Connell said that the team expects the fifth-round pick to miss multiple weeks and that there’s been no call yet about whether to place him on injured reserve.

I didn’t even know he was active.
