He’s a talented kid. Fant and Hockenson will get most of the attention from scouts and analysts, but Smith is a really good pass catcher himself.

Smith seems kinda bland to me. Definitely a better version of Dalton Shultz but still not that athletic that makes coordinators go wow we gotta game plan for that guy.

My opinion on Fant will depend on what happens with the coaching staff. If Garrett saves his job down the stretch here, it's hard for me to imagine Fant would be their guy. If we hired a guy like Riley or DeFilipo, then I'd probably change my tune on that. Hockenson is more along the lines of what this coaching staff wants.

But I think I prefer Smith. He is such a talented pass catcher and athlete. A true seam buster we haven't had since Jason Witten's prime years. Great catch radius and body control to make up for any quarterback accuracy issues. It feels like a lazy comparison because of the Stanford connection, but he really is a bit Zach Ertzy.

Curious why we are drafting Beckner and Johnson?

Irving and Collins have been prone to missing time, Becker is an insurance policy. Not to mention DL depth is always important.

Johnson gives you another deep threat to add to Austin.
