Love how Foles torpedoe’d his value tonight... no chance Eagles get a 1st round pick out of him now.  Should’ve sold high Howie.

Oh please, no performance in preseason is going to be taken very seriously, especially when coaches and GMs have a full game of tape on him playing out of his mind in the freaking SB.  That's just an asinine take right there, and I can't stand Foles or the Eagles.

About the game, I think Baker continued to show his growth and ability to compete in this league, proving he has a great NFL arm, nice pocket escapability, and good mobility.  Again, its the preseason, so obviously judging his play must be made through that lens, but he was impressive with several big throws.  Its also obvious at this point that the game is definitely not too big for him (something you always look for in rookie QBs) and with more reps and experience, I think he will be at least solid in the league and probably one of the better QBs in a few years.

That said, obviously the Browns are doing the right thing by going with Taylor as the starter to open the season.  Tyrod is a known commodity and a proven veteran who just took the Bills (yes, the BILLS) to the playoffs last year, so you have to be cautiously optimistic about plugging him into an offense that has talent on it.  Taylor will never be a great QB, that's for certain, but what he is is a trustworthy game-manager that doesn't turn the ball over (something this team desperately needs after the Kizer experiment last year) and who has above average mobility that allows him to extend plays.  Baker has about a million times the potential of Tyrod Taylor, but the INT tonight showed the typical stuff you can expect from a rookie QB and the Browns desperately need someone in there right now that won't LOSE games for them with TOs and who is more even keel.

The biggest reason that Taylor should start is simply that starting Baker leaves you no where to go if things go really bad.  If he has a Peterman-like 5-INT game and you are forced to bring the veteran in that will be very damaging to Baker's confidence (plus it just puts way too much unnecessary pressure on the kid to perform since he was the #1 pick), but if you start Tyrod and things go wrong you still have the shiny, new #1 draft pick to bring off the bench and provide a spark which would make things much easier for the kid.  Its just far easier to come off the bench because the starter was bad, as opposed to being the starter and having that pressure to succeed off the bat.
