mdonnelly21
I feel like a sack is big, but I don't feel like it's that important to determine how good an edge rusher or defensive end is?

JAF-N72EX
I strongly disagree. Sacks are not the end all be all but when your main job is to get after the QB, it is very important.
Jimmy Austin
That's what I look for in a pass-rusher.

AlNFL19
I think sacks are important and not overrated, but other pass-rushing statistics like pressures and hurries are underrated. People tend to completely overlook these in favor of just sack totals, even though a player might get unlucky and end up with 50 pressures and 5 sacks while a worse player could get some luck and have, say 25 pressures and 7 sacks. Sacks aren't overrated, but they don't always tell the whole story in terms of comparing pass rushers.

If a dude has 14 sacks but 25 pressures that's pretty blegh, whereas a dude with 70 pressures and 5 sacks is a much better pass rusher.
TheFinisher
A sack is the goal, so they should be valued more than pressures/hits... but like others have said you need to account for the entire picture. the better you are as a pass rusher; the faster you get to the QB. that can be the difference between a hurry or a sack, and all of this happens within 3-4 secs

You literally can't have both a sack and an int on the same play
Gannon12
Pressure on QB contain the edge TFL and sacks just as the last guy said pressure leads to mistakes. Stop the run constant pressure and the QB is done unless you are Rodgers
stl4life07
Yes. It’s all about the qb hits and pressures. Donald only had 11 sacks but had a ridiculous amount of qb hits and pressures and thus won the DPOY. With Suh now, the combo of Suh and Donald would’ve been 3rd in the NFL last season with total pressures. So who needs edge rushers when you have that. But yeah sacks are overrated imo.
