ESPN's Buster Olney reports that the Cubs are open to trading Kris Bryant.

Olney writes that the Cubs "have indicated to other teams they are willing to discuss trade proposals for almost all of the players on their roster, including Bryant." In other words, this is more about the Cubs simply being open-minded about exploring all possibilities rather than them being motivated to trade their star third baseman. It's true that long-term contract talks between the two sides haven't gone anywhere, so Bryant being dealt at some point can't be ruled out. However, he's under team control through 2021, so it seems unlikely he'd be going anywhere anytime soon even as he's coming off a disappointing season.

ESPN's Buster Olney is a ****ty reporter.

The entire quote that started this story is:

Quote

"We've never operated with untouchables," he said. "It sends the wrong message. Given what we're trying to accomplish, it would be virtually impossible to envision the deal that would make sense to move them. I just don't believe in untouchables. Why limit yourself?"

This is clickbait horse ****. The Cubs aren't trading Kris Bryant.

https://www.cbssports.com/mlb/news/bryce-harper-trade-to-astros-reportedly-vetoed-by-nationals-ownership-in-july/

The Athletic is reporting that the Nats had a deal in place to trade Harper to Houston for three prospects, but that Nats ownership vetoed it.  The haul would have included starter J.B. Bukauskas (#76 rated prospect in baseball by BA), catcher Garrett Stubbs and one more prospect.

If that's true, the Nationals will never amount to anything until they get new ownership
