That's my point though... they'll try to remake it from scratch and completely botch it.

They'll probably try to (re)make a spoof/slap-stick comedy Robin Hood, but it wouldn't be Men in Tights or in the same vein as a Brooks comedy.  It'd be more in the vein of the kind of crap that the Baywatch movie or the 21 Jump Street movies were.

He literally owns the rights to a lot of stuff he wrote, not the studio.  If he wasn't heavily involved, he wouldn't allow his stuff to be put back out there; he was heavy-handed in how much he needed to be involved for them to put Young Frankenstein out as a Broadway musical  Also, 1) Brooks' comedies were written for people older than you, so some of those jokes shouldn't resonate with you.  And 2) Space Balls is like his 5th or 6th best comedy.  If it wasn't parodying Star Wars, it wouldn't have near the cultural recognition that it does.

But what it ultimately boils down to is that Mel had actors he preferred to work with and most of them are either dead or barely acting anymore.  And he's really not that interested in working with new ones.

Id say Men in Tights is a horribly unfunny movie.

Blazing Saddles is awesome, but primarily because of the leads because there are a lot of jokes that miss

21 Jump Street was alright. 22 Jump Street was great.
