The cop-out answer is "More than 2018".

But really, I think it comes down to how LaFleur thinks he can use him. If he feels he can get $9million, keep him.

I understand LaFleur will use him much differently than McCarthy. So it's not apples-to-apples to look at 2018.

Fair enough.

I think that is what it boils down to.  Does Lafleur think he will get a high level of production out of him or not.

Burnett has never been anything close to Thomas as a S, Thomas is a difference maker every time he is on the field, Burnett has never been that player.

All depends where you want to spend millions of dollars in free agency  .... edge, safety, ol,  ... can't spend millions and millions everywhere.

Here is the real question!  Will the new offensive scheme utilize tight ends differently this year than last year?  If they actually use their tight ends more ... than yes, it will be worth keeping him.  If not, then it was a massive waste of money/talent.

If yes, they might still get rid of him and draft Hock.

I actually didn't really like either Iowa TE when I watched them :)

Sure, and it makes my eyebrows go all Spocky to think that two TEs from an Iowa team that wasn't all that big of a deal would go TE 1 and TE 2 in the draft.

I just wonder if there has to be a linkage to LeFleur's vision of TE play and a certainty that Graham stays. There is still a flowchart path that wants a "yes/no" on whether or not Graham's value and skillset matches--even if our desire to have strong TE play increases under MLF.

It seems to me they are in kind of a tough spot with Graham.   He is due a 5.3 million roster bonus on March 15th, so they can't really wait and see how the draft falls before they make a decision on him.   That leaves early free agency to see what they can get as replacements for Graham, Lewis, and Kendricks if they decide to move on from the three.  They only get about a day to line up something before the bonus is due or risk having basically only Tonyan locked up for next year.

Potentially interesting TEs who had at least 10 receptions in 2018 (PFF Score and Rank):

Luke Stocker - 76.8 (6) - 15/165/2

Jared Cook - 75.7 (9) - 68/896/6

Tyler Eifert - 72.2 (UR) - 15/179/1

Maxx Williams - 71.6 (16) - 16/143/1

Nick Boyle - 68.5 (23) - 23/213/0

Levine Toilolo - 66.5 (29) - 21/263/1

Jesse James - 66.4 (30) - 30/423/2

Jeff Heuerman - 61.4 (41) - 31/281/2

Demetrius Harris - 60.5 (44)

Lance Kendricks - 60.5 (44)

James O'Shaughnessy - 60.4 (44)

Jimmy Graham - 59.4 (48)

C.J. Uzomah - 57.4 (50)

Geoff Swaim - 57.1 (54)

Luke Willson - 55.3 (57)

Ricky Seals-Jones (ERFA) - 52.8  (63)

Marcedes Lewis - 52.2 (UR)

Logan Thomas - 52.1 (64)

How much is Jesse James going to cost? Would we rather have say Stocker and James (and probably someone else) instead of Graham in 2019? The Baltimore TEs are intriguing as well.

If you could pull it off, easy yes for me. Stocker is connected to LaFleur and shouldn't be in any kind of demand but James you'd have to entice to come to GB. He'll have other suitors.

50% of James yards came week 1&2, he was benched for McDonald and had 4 catches for 40 yards down the 4 game stretch to end the year. Don't know much about Stocker, but 2 for 27 was his best game. Neither come close to Graham.

If the Packers keep Jimmy Graham this season & then release him after next year they will have paid Graham $16.3 million to play in 2019. I'd rather pay him $7 million to go away than $16 million for another year of crappy, uninspired play. Going to be interesting.

And go into 2019 with at best a warm body at TE, no thanks.
