@AlexGreen#20 - can't quote your reply...but in reply, I agree McCarthy's ability to develop QB's shouldn't be undervalued, FWIW.   A team like Arizona would do well to consider bringing him in to tutor Rosen (but hopefully just be the tutor/OC, but pay him close to HC $).  Just as you said, his coaching abilities are very meh.   He's also made some really awful personnel decisions of late (like timesharing Aaron Jones even in just running situations - I get pass pro was the big concern early on last year, but to time share him for actual running downs....man).

ARod's play hasn't been his usual elite self, that's entirely fair.  Just that McCarthy's always been a huge minus in the game management side - which doesn't matter as much in the regular season, but can cost games (like it did last night).    Where it really hurts is come playoff time when closely matched teams face off - the coaching decisions often have a massive impact, and that's where his very average to below-average skills handicap Green Bay.

I don't think his coaching abilities are very meh. The Packers are one of the most analytical teams in the league. They run those endgame situations by the numbers in most instances. Fans just don't like the numbers in a lot of instances.

Jones was suspended for the first two weeks and banged up all of training camp. Jones should absolutely not have been thrust into a full time role immediately. He needed practice reps and he was still making big mistakes in pass protection his first few games. He's looking much better on 3rd down in his last few games, that's a credit to the coaching staff. You can't just play Jones for rushing downs and Williams for passing downs, you need some variety or it's a tendency teams track. (Also, Williams isn't as bad as people seem to think, but that's a different beef I have with McCarthy)

I'm going to flat out say....

We're no longer going to see elite Aaron Rodgers for 60 minutes. We're just going to see flashes of elite Aaron Rodgers every now and then.

I've never seen a QB of his level look and play so disinterested.

Yes, he does look disinterested.  You can see it in his face on game day and in interviews during the week when he speaks to the press after practice on Wednesday.  Is he unhappy because he can't play like he once did because of that plate and screws in his shoulder or is he just weary of the scheme he is in now?  If a HC change is made this offseason we'll know soon enough.  His play will continue to be mediocre - for him - or he'll be an elite QB again if the new HC can light a fire in him again.

McCarthy is an idiot for not going for it on 4th down, but Rodgers missed some easy checkdowns for firsts in key moments in the game (namely their final redzone drive). Take what the defense gives you man.

Rodgers has done this a lot throughout his career. This is often ignored

It's sad to see to be honest.

Granted, I hate him for what he's done to the Vikings for a decade but is there a more fun player in the league to watch than a prime, elite Aaron Rodgers? Now, he just looks like he doesn't want to be out there. Even without the camera shots on his face....he seems "over" it all.

I'm torn.....I want to see that Rodgers again but I want the Packers to suck for the next 5+ years.....

He seems to only get excited when he escapes the pocket and throws a 40-yard bomb while on the run. Checkdowns don't interest him anymore. It's kind of like once a person gets into midget BDSM bukkake porn, they can't really go back to regular old doggie style. It's just boring. Or so I've heard.

VanS also created the "we are sleeping on the Raiders" thread. Oh dear.

As for all the 'Rodgers is done' hot takes - don't worry Packer fans, the more you go through these, the better it tastes.

If he ever gets the word Seahawks in his mouth, im deleting the internet.

The only good news is that the FO is finally seeing it....may it be a merciful end after 2018 is done.

A decision was going to have be made one way or the other.  His contract is only for one more year, and HC don't go into that lame duck situation.  Either you extend him or move on from him.  And given the fact that they revamped the FO last offseason, it seems likely that McCarthy's days in Green Bay are numbered.

Dare we say Rodgers impact has been overrated? At least this season he's been the biggest baby ever.

What has he done, besides being unhappy and frustrated with not winning more, to suggest he is some big baby?  Bemoan the fact the offense is struggling?  Show frustration and disappointment in himself and his teammates when things go south?  What competitive athlete wouldn't?   I've seen Brady with that look occasionally and I've seen him swear at teammates on the sidelines when the team is losing.  Or does Brady get a pass because he has all that jewelry?
