Eli will definitely be a hall of famer, though I wouldn't vote him in nor do I think he deserves it (the HoF should be about the absolutely best that ever played in history, not guys who were pretty good imo).

He was "pretty good", but he did do some remarkably memorable things in two Super Bowls against the most dominant dynasty in history and that is worth making him a part of the HOF to me.  I like the definition I heard from someone (I can't remember who) that said the Hall of Fame should be for people who you can't tell the story of the NFL without talking about them.  Eli fits into this category, even though he wasn't necessarily one of the best who ever played the position.

I've heard that, but I strongly disagree with it. I'd rather have Terrell Davis types in the hall than Eli, because Davis was legitimately an elite RB for a period of time. There's a lot of people in the hall you can tell the story of the NFL without as well. Do we retroactively remove them from the hall? Because if that's the case, remove every non-QB from the Hall of Fame immediately.

"Telling the story of the NFL" is just some boomer-tier take to justify some guy's place. Now, I know Eli will most likely be voted in, but I don't believe he deserves it.

Eli had a nice career. At no point in his career was he one of the best QBs in the NFL. To me, that's an instant disqualifier for the Hall.

A sad day for Giants fans. Hoping he pops up every once in a while

Giants' fan myself, and, even as such, I have no illusions about Eli's having been a top-tier QB. But a very good one. And- perhaps not mentioned enough- a real gamer. Despite his low-key demeanor, Eli was one tough man, who showed up and played. Played behind atrocious blocking in his last few years, rushed unmercifully, and himself not an especially-mobile quarterback. And didn't complain. A lot of lesser guys might have retired in disgust- and pain-earlier. But Eli, for whatever his other limitations, hung in there and was a real trouper for the Giants, for a long time.

Thanks for everything, Eli.

Yep. Brees, Brady, Rivers and Big Ben. The end of 2000s QB golden era. The new OLD guard will now be headlined be Rodgers, Ryan, Stafford, and Newton.

Since he sat for the first few years, people forget that Rodgers was drafted way back in 2005. I guarantee he won't play into his forties the way Brees and Brady have. Matt Ryan will be the oldest NFL QB in a couple of seasons.
