Coronavirus (COVID-19)

Does anyone ever watch Chicago med? I watched the new episode and they included covid in it.  I'm sure some of it was accurate but some things were pretty obviously off. It seemed kind of random when the doctors wore masks but they didn't wear them much unless they were in the covid unit.  I suppose everyone wearing masks doesn't make for good TV. One time someone came in on a stretcher and they said he was covid negative like they have him a test on the way over so they didn't need to take precautions

They also mention that they can't perform cpr on a covid patient that goes into cardiac arrest because it would release too much of the virus.  Just out of curiosity is there any truth to that? I imagine than chances of someone coming back at that point are miniscule.

And no I'm not taking medical advice from a TV show

More people are dying each week from COVID than were killed in 9/11. Pretty soon we will be at that many deaths per day.

If we were being hit with a 9/11-caliber attack each week, imagine the response we would be seeing from the entire country. It would be complete unity, no partisanship. People would do anything.

Yet we can't even wear masks.

2,000 deaths a day (avg) seems likely at this point. I actually debated a couple of nurses on our unit that COVID is more deadly than the flu. It's incredible what terrible communication from leadership can breed.

This is an interesting idea. It doesn't seem likely, but I bet this would be more tolerable.

It is. Unfortunately, many governors would not go for it. I mean- El Paso is a **** show right now as is South Dakota, and those governors are doing everything they can to keep them from issuing a stay at home order. Luckily, El Paso's county judge has some reason and morals, but the stay at home order is being reviewed by the state supreme court since Abott said stay at home orders are unconstitutional. It'd be nice to have some guidelines and a plan communicated to the nation. It'd ease anxiety, but here we are.

What he means by endemic is probably something similar to the flu. Especially if we can figure out symptom treatment.

I'm not going to argue with Fauci. He clearly is way the hell more educated in this field than I am. This is more for education purposes.

Wouldn't a 90%+ effective vaccine that is targeting one strain have a chance of eradicating the virus entirely if enough people take it? I'm assuming it's going to be tough to get whatever percentage of people it would take to eradicate it vaccinated. Hopefully immunity from the vaccine lasts a couple of years. If that's the case- then maybe we could eradicate it? Is it a time sensitive issue? As in- a certain percentage of people need to be vaccinated before immunity wears off to eradicate the virus? Or is it a human behavior issue? In that Fauci realizes not enough people will be vaccinated to eradicate it.

So in NJ, the health commissioner just released the following information based on 51 confirmed outbreaks they have traced in NJ from 10/1 to 11/1.  They did not say how many specific cases this was tied to.  They also followed it up by saying 70% of Coronavirus cases were linked to Halloween parties (once again, no # of cases were supplied).

Of the 51 outbreaks:

33% ties to sports teams

11% tied to government workplaces

10% tied to public safety workplaces (can confirm for a fact that a lot of patients are getting COVID while in the hospitals/rehabs)

10% to daycare facilities (did not specify among children or adults)

6% to weddings

6% to parties and gatherings

2% to hotels or casinos

Remaining % unidentified

So on one hand they say 70% of cases are Halloween parties, but only 6% of recent outbreaks were traced to parties and gatherings?  Also, the new restrictions that just came out from what I can tell  only impact bars/restaurants/casinos & inter state sports (under the collegiate level only).  Zero mention of shutting down all sports despite that clearly being a main driver 2 weeks ago. Hard to take this state serious.

He doesnt state what lead him to this conclusion in the article, however my guess would simply be the way in which it spreads. Asymptomatically and easily. I know 90% is thrown around a lot since that report for Pfizer came out, but that was only the first trial. I fully expect that number to come down. Outside of that, much like the flu shot, I wouldnt expect it to give you 100% immunity.

So I have some exciting news that I can NOT back up.

My company has a staffing contract with the State of New Hampshire for all COVID response. So far we are providing contact tracers, people for the call center, and some nurses for oversight. We just got an order for nurses to give vaccines. Their expectation is that they will start vaccinating 16k people a day by the second week of December.

I say again, I can NOT back this up because this isnt being reported anywhere and is kinda insider info. All I know is that the state of NH is being told to be ready by the 2nd week of Dec by Pfizer.

We're holding you personally responsible if not.
