that's true, but they are straight liners .. it's also the body type too.  I'd like to see some smaller and quicker options .. guys that can quickly get in and out of their breaks and are a threat to score every time they touch the ball.

It would definitely nice to have someone like that. Though I don't think a player like that, even if available, would be cheap. Lets hope we can get someone like that in the draft.

His first problem is he doesn't catch the ball very well. That is sort of a problem when you play WR. He's not as good as Lazard and we have ESB and MVS, other tall guys who can actually run.

I just don't get this one at all!

Just need to wait for the money, if he's cheap this was a fine move. Again, the guy is 26 and has had 2 reasonably big seasons in his career. If he's a bargain, it's better than the status quo and also better than paying $12m to Robby Anderson, who's best season was about the same as what Funchess did in 2017.

I like Lazard, but you have to be pretty high on him to say this with confidence. By the time Funchess was Lazard's age, he had 150+ catches for 2,000+ yards and 20+ TDs. At minimum he's a solid WR3/4 with WR2 upside having never played in a very receiver-friendly system. Depends on the contract, but this is a solid signing IMO.

And yes, I too hope we add more speed/quickness through the draft.

I'm guessing there's several factors in play.

1. getting an experienced NFL WR opposite Adams was a priority

2. he's young enough that if he balls out and hit FA he could net us a handsome 3rd round compensatory pick

3. allows the drafted rookie time to develop

4. from a strategic point of view (assuming he's a solid run blocker) he could be a good fit in LaFleurs balanced offence.

5. cheap

MVS and EQ are not slow.

Hell, neither is Lazard for that matter.  He might not be the fastest receiver in the NFL but 4.55 at 227 is a pretty legit size/speed combo, and a 122" BJ and 38" VJ is damn fine athleticism.  This group isn't lightning but there's a ton of athleticism at scale here.

His catch percentage is 51.9%. Lazard, much smaller sample obviously is 67.9!

Interesting decision by Funchess to join the Packers. I'd argue that he would be better off in Indianapolis with Rivers throwing to him as he does have a history of utilising his bigger receivers and taking more risks with his throws.

With Rodgers he has to gain ALOT of trust for Funchess to succeed.

It's like the NBA dunk comp. If our guys were all 5'10 throwing down basic windmills and running 4.4, 4.5, this would be much less of a talking point.

I'm thinking about the draft.  KJ Hamler, Brandon Aiyuk, Jalen Reagor.

I doubt we use our 1st round pick for our WR. Just get the feeling that we won't.

Maybe we trade back with our 1st round pick for a mid-early 2nd round pick + and trade up from the 62nd pick to the mid-50 range. Use one of those picks for best available WR and the other to fill whatever else hole needs to be filled (RT, ILB).
