Curse of the Black Pearl is probably a top 5 big screen movie experience for me.  Went in with low to moderate expectations and absolutely loved it.  Dead Man's Chest was a huge disappointment (outside of the score which I really dug) and then At Worlds End was a dumpster fire.  I've probably seen about a third of On Stranger Tides and didn't even bother with Dead Men Tell No Tales.  I had to look up the titles of the last two to even make sure I had it right.  Just an epic collapse of story telling while they were chasing the dollars.  They even had some interesting plot elements, just executed so so terribly.

That franchise had made a lot of money so im sure some people consider it a success but its was such a let down after how good CotBP was.

Never been able to finish on strangers tides or dead men tell no tales. I love Pirates history, so it’s such a shame that all the movies after the first one suck.

Curse of the Black Pearl is a fantastic summer blockbuster that holds up really well.

Dead Man's Chest is fun, and Davey Jones is an awesome villain. A clear step down, but enjoyable.

At World's End is so overstuffed and overly complicated. There's great parts to it and a good editor with a few cuts could have made this a good movie, but man they really messed this up. And some of the scenes they did cut to keep the complicated nonsense were a huge mistake, like Jack's line about people not being cargo in his conversation with Beckett...adds so much to their history and Jack's character.

On Stranger Tides is fine. Jack Sparrow can't carry a movie and it really shows in this one.

Dead Men Tell No Tales is awful. I could barely make it through this one. Depp became a complete caricature of himself in this one.

I just watched the Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey movie out of morbid curiosity (online, you didn't think I'd pay to watch that shyt, did you?) and let me just say: for everyone hoping it'd be one of those "so bad it's good" movies, I'm here to tell you... it's not, it's just bad, really, really, reeeeeeeeeally bad (to the shock of nobody). It's awful across the board. Everything about it is bad and not in a "good" way. The characters are all flat, useless and stupid with no depth whatsoever (except for one via a shoehorned stalker subplot that goes nowhere and that’s literally it for character development) with horrendous shaky cam and lighting that makes it impossible to see WTF is happening (it was so dark, I couldn’t see shyt and the few kills that were visible had really bad CGI blood) and really bad editing that splices shots from other sets together at certain points (I wish I was making this up). And to top it all off, scenes dragged on longer than needed to get it to the required minimum runtime. Without the padding, this movie maybe makes it to an hour runtime.

Way to go, you make an exploitation horror flick out of a beloved childhood character purely for shock value and you can't even get that right. Or maybe it was to hide the skin underneath those cheap Dollar Store Pooh and Piglet masks, unclear. And BTW: it's so clearly guys in masks who just happen to be plastic-faced anthropomorphic animals per the movie's story.

But then again, the director flat out admitted he was never interested in making a good or even entertaining-bad/so-bad-it's-good movie out of this in his Reddit AMA that they're strangely censoring hateful comments on, so there you go.

Otherwise, I've been rewatching the John Wick series the past couple of days and rewatching John Wick 3 right now in preparation for seeing John Wick: Chapter Four tomorrow. This series has blessed me with some of the best gun and fight scenes I've ever had the pleasure of watching and I have no doubt Chapter 4 will end the series with a bang.

But on a side note, go watch Keanu's meltdown scene from Knock Knock if you want something that's truly "so bad it's good". "IT WAS FREE PIZZA!", gets me every time, lol. 🤣

I also saw Scream VI OW, which was a marked improvement on V. Loved the characters and horror trope humor a lot more in this (the opening Ghostface call alone was more engaging than anything in V, not that V was bad, just rather lukewarm) and as an added bonus, the kills were brutal, probably the best the series has had to offer up to this point, though it was approaching Fast and the Furious levels of ridiculous how much some of the cast were able to take being gutted I must admit. And the killer reveals were predictable as hell, I knew 2 of them right off the bat, and without going into spoilers, you can probably guess who they are just by watching.

It's horrifying how many times I've done an even more exaggerated impression of Keanu in that scene. Truly a highpoint in cinematic history.

Zack and Miri Make a Porno is a vastly underrated comedy of the last 20 years. It's better than any comedy to drop since it came out in 2008.

Tropic Thunder, 21 Jump Street, This is the End, The Nice Guys, Pineapple Express, What We Do in the Shadows, Bridesmaids, The Other Guys all came out in 2008 or later

All nowhere near as quotable or memorable. Bridesmaids was trash and a half. There's some insanely awesome subtle stuff in ZaM that make the comedic writing and execution of the movie nearly perfect.

The entire population forgot about ZaM about 5 minutes after they saw it.

Hard, hard, hard disagree that it’s more quotable than movies like Tropic Thunder/Other Guys or more memorable than movies like What We Do in the Shadows/21 Jump Street/The Nice Guys. It’s probably the least memorable of that whole era of raunchy late 00s movies tbh.

Don’t think i’ve even heard someone bring ZaM up in like a decade. And they’re definitely not quoting it like they are Tom Cruise in Thunder or Wahlberg/Ferrell in The Other Guys. No shot in hades

I don't remember a single friggin' thing from The Other Guys other than dudes jumping off the building. Entirely forgettable movie. I don't think I've ever heard anyone quote that movie. It's pretty damn mid tbqh.

I want subtlety in my comedy, not slap you in the face humor so TT, 21 JS and Other Guys just aren't my type of comedy and movies I find insanely overrated as a result. There's no rewatch value to those movies. I honestly didn't laugh once on my rewatch of TT a few years ago. Obviously everyone has different tastes when it comes to comedy (film and stand-up) so it is what it is.

Yeah i’ll never argue “better” or “worse” when it comes to something as subjective as comedy - i was more pushing back on the idea that Zack and Miri is somehow more quoted and remembered than those movies I listed. Like it or not Bridesmaids is seen as like a seminal “female” comedy of the last 20 years. There’s a Tom Cruise Les Grossman reference or callback like every time Cruise comes back out with a new movie and WWDITS spawned a very successful TV show spinoff. Don’t think I’ve heard anything about ZaM in literally prob 7-8 years.

I tend to agree the in your face comedies like Other Guys are typically overrated and I prefer more subtle stuff as well
