The Dirty Dozen Dynasty Constitution
Written: 12/29/2020
Last amended: 06/03/2023

Section I: League Composition

1.1. The league consists of 12 teams.

1.2. At the discretion of the commissioners, the league may expand or contract teams as he deems necessary. The commissioners must make known to all members of the league any changes to the number of teams one month before the day of the draft. If expansion takes place, the new owners will be able to select 12 players from the available pool of non-rookie players. If there is more than one new manager, the order of selecting the 12 players will be decided by coin flip, and the order will snake. For example, new manager 1 that won the coin flip would get 1.1, 2.2, 3.1, 4.2, etc in the free agency pool. The new manager that did not win the coin flip would get 1.1 in the draft, and the new manager that won the coin flip would get pick 1.2. Contracting would result in all of the players from the extinguished teams to go into the draft pool.

1.3. The league consists of two divisions. Playoff seating is dictated by win percentage (with points for being tie-breaker).

Section II: The Draft

2.1. The league’s draft will be conducted offline at the league subforum at https://forums.footballsfuture.com/.

2.2. Members of the league may attend in the following ways:

            a) Personally select the players on the draft subforum

            b) Commissioner approved proxy

2.3. It is the responsibility of the members to do their utmost to attend the draft in one of the above ways. If a member does not attend, his team will be drafted through consensus picks, including his keepers, by league commissioner(s).

2.4. The draft is a ‘linear’ draft. There are 5 rounds, and each team must make five selections by the end of the draft.

2.5. Further details about the draft process will be provided on each year’s draft thread. When you’re on the clock, you will get 12 hours to make your pick, however, there are 10 dead hours between 12:00AM/EST and 9:58AM/EST.

            a) After a manager selects a player on the draft forum, they will tag the next manager on the clock. Ex: @sammymvpknight

            b) Late picks: if a manager does not get their pick in on time, the manager may be skipped at the commissioner(s)’s discretion. At the end of that round, the commissioner will consider making a selection for that manager to ensure a competitive balance for gaining managers. If the tardy manager notices that they have a skipped pick, they may make their selection immediately (unless the selection has already been made by the commissioner).

            c) Missed picks: Any member that misses their pick two consecutive times without contacting commissioner(s) ahead of time, or notifying on the forum, will be replaced.

            d) Drafting taken players: Fellow managers and commissioner(s) are to notify manager that took ineligible players as soon as possible so that change can be made. If the manager does not rectify the selection, the pick will be considered “late”. See 2.5.b) for more details.  If the manager notices that they have a skipped pick, they may make their selection immediately (unless the selection has already been made by the commissioner).

e) Position minimums/maximums: Notice that there are position minimums/maximums listed in the ESPN league settings. If you draft a player that puts you over that maximum, you will lose that selection. Other managers and commissioner(s) are encouraged to notify the manager as soon as possible. If the manager does not rectify the selection, the pick will be considered “late”. See 2.5.b) for more details. If the manager notices that they have a skipped pick, they may make their selection immediately (unless the selection has already been made by the commissioner). Likewise, every team has to conclude the draft with position minimums

Section III: Waivers

3.1. Each team will start with a FAAB budget of $110. FAAB moneys cannot be traded.

Section IV: Trades

4.1. Trades may be made between any two members of the league. They can be any combination of players or draft picks. Draft picks must be traded on an even basis (each member in the trade must be trading away the same number of picks from the same draft year).

            a. Prior to keeper deadline: Teams can make multiple player trades (2 for 1) or (3 for 2) etc. All teams must have 12 players at the keeper deadline, or have a max of 18+IR players on their rosters along with 5 draft picks prior to the keeper deadline. (The team getting the extra player(s) may need to adjust/drop players if needed to stay within the team roster limit. (Remember you have to keep 12 players at the keeper deadline). Current year draft picks & The following year draft picks can also be traded or be part of a trade, but pick totals need to equal out (1 for 1) or (2 for 2) etc. per year.

            b. After the keeper deadline: Teams can make multiple player & current year draft picks in a trade (1-player for 1-pick) or (1-player & 1-pick for 2-picks) etc. but both teams need to have a total of 17 (players + picks) on their rosters prior and during the draft. The following year draft picks can also be traded or be part of a trade, but pick totals need to equal out (1 for 1) or (2 for 2) etc. per year.

            c. Future draft picks: Draft picks can be traded one year prior, but everyone must have 5 draft picks total for every year. For instance, if you are in the year 2023 after conclusion of the prior season but before or during the league dynasty draft, you may trade 2023 or 2024 picks. If it is during the 2023 league season, you may only trade 2024 picks.

            d. Temporary trades/trade-backs: Prohibited.

4.2. The commissioner(s) holds the reserve power to rescind any trade. As a convention, he/she will use this power only in matters of suspected collusion.

4.3. If the commissioner finds reason to suspect collusion, he/she will question both parties as to their rationale behind the trade. He/she will not judge the reasoning, but simply will determine if there is at least reasonable justification for why each side has agreed to the trade or whether there is collusion.

4.4. ‘Collusion’ is defined as disingenuous trading among players that goes beyond league strategy. For example, a player who cannot make the playoffs may not trade his best players to a friend in the league with the sole intention of helping his friend win.

4.5. While any member may, by right, petition the commissioner with a complaint or protestation about any trade, the commissioner is not compelled to act on a complaint.

Section V: Rules of Play

5.1. The scoring system used will be posted on the ESPN site as soon as the league page is created. There are no guarantees that the scoring will be absolutely identical from year to year. Members are responsible to take note. Go to the ESPN league settings page for details.

5.2. Members may play any combination of players they like. However, members are required to fill-out their roster with eligible players (i.e. those not on byes/IR/suspensions).

5.3. Any member who plays a player who is either on the IR or on bye shall first be warned by the commissioner of his mistake. If a member persists in playing an IR player or one on bye, the commissioner will exact a penalty on the team or team owner.

5.4. Under the circumstance that a member does not have a filled-out roster and it affects draft position to their benefit, the point total for the highest scoring player from the same position on their bench will be rewarded. If there is not a player available on the member's bench to substitute for the inactive player in that member's starting lineup, then the highest point total for the player on waivers/free agency of that position will be rewarded.

Section VI: Determining Playoffs and Draft Order

6.1. The top six teams qualify for the playoffs every year. Playoff seating is dictated by win percentage (with points for being tie-breaker). The two top seeds will have a 1st round bye. Any increase in the playoff teams will be announced to members on or before the draft.

6.2. The Draft order is set in two parts:

           a) The six teams that missed the playoffs the prior year will receive the first six picks. The first preference will be given to the team with the worst win percentage for the regular season the prior year, and so forth. “Point for” will serve as the tie breaker in this cohort.

            b) The six teams that make the playoffs will get picks 7-12. The teams that are eliminated in the 1st round of the playoffs will get picks 7-8, with the team with the worst regular season win percentage would get preference, with “points for” being the tie breaker, as above. The teams that are eliminated in the 2nd round of the playoffs will get picks 9-10, with the team with the worst regular season win percentage would get preference, with “points for” being the tie breaker, as above. The team that loses in the championship game will get pick 11, and the team that wins the championship will get pick 12.

6.3. If the league undergoes expansion, the teams are entitled to the top picks in the draft. See 1.2 for more details.

6.4. Drafts are held every year, even if there is an ongoing labor dispute.

Section VII: Ethics and Constitutional Amendment

7.1. This constitution lays out the rules particular to the league. Therefore, that which is not outlawed by this constitution is permitted.

7.2. It is expected that each member acts ethically when possible. It is discouraged that members accept trades only once their player to trade has been injured.  In general, members are encouraged to act as fairly as possible given the situation.

7.3. The constitution can be amended.

7.4. Amendments made prior to the beginning of a fantasy season come into force immediately.

7.5. Amendments made during the season do not take effect until the following season.

7.6. The Constitution can be amended by the commissioner(s) at any time as deemed needed. While it is not required, it is recommended that he consult the membership to determine their thoughts on any changes.

7.7. Members can propose amendments to the constitution. These proposals will be heard but their passage or acceptance cannot be guaranteed.

7.8. The commissioner has the right to enforce penalties to franchises at his discretion if a situation arises that does not fall under the terms of the constitution

Section VIII: Keepers

8.1. Members must keep up to 12 players each year. Kept players are not draft eligible by other managers.

8.2. There are no term limits for the duration a keeper may be kept.

8.3.

            a) Members are to announce their keeper players per schedule that is listed each season on the league subforum. Keeper selections are made on the ESPN site.

            b) Expansion teams will have the option to select up to three keeper eligible players, non-red shirt, from the pool of unkept players after the keeper deadline. Selection will be conducted by snake draft rules, with the order being determined by a coin flip. The selection process will be held at least three days prior to the scheduled draft.

8.4. Members who fail to announce their keepers by the deadline will be allowed to keep players but will be assessed a penalty of dropping 1 spot per round per day. For example, if Team A was scheduled to draft at 1.1, 2.1, 3.1, 4.1, and 5.1, and declared keepers two days late, they now will select at 1.3, 2.3, 3.3, 4.3, and 5.3.

would your opinion on #2 change if modifications were made. Such as starting the superflex to start the 2023 season. That would give all teams at least a few years to build.

One of my concerns of Superflex is it flips the QB position from being undervalued to overvalued. One way I think that could be neutralized is by changing QB scoring.

I could see voting now and having it go int effect later like you said.. and the super flex does change positional value at the qb, people would draft a team diffrently if they could start 2 QB ..

1. FAAB.....all the FAAB. rolling waivers is for chumps. Especially for a league with such a shallow waiver wire.

2. Meh.........not a fan. I'd vote no

3. keep the 3 IR spots

4. Keep 12

5. Sure. Let's go.

I'm good with all the changes.  I understand people not wanting to switch to a superflex because some teams already have multiple qbs.  What if everyone had to pair down to 1 qb before the draft?  Also I wouldn't start this until 2022 at the earliest.

1. Agreed.

2. This is fine, I recommend starting ‘23 season.

3. This is fine.

4. I’m open to this, name of the league is dirty dozen dynasty, not dirty dozen keeper.

5. Sure why not?

First I'd like to say I'm more of a traditionalist when it come to FF football & the NFL, but I also want FF to be fun.

#1 This would be a go for me. Neither rolling waivers nor FAAB is true to what the NFL does, I think FAAB would be more fun?

#2 Not a big fan, I'd say no, I would rather consider looking at our scoring for QB's, but good if we leave it as is. (12 teams x 2 QBs + 1 back-up for inj & bye wk's = 36 QB's. The NFL only has 32 starting QB's. This doesn't work well for 12 team league's).

#3 As this was only a temp change & Covid seams to be moving in the right direction I would change it back to two IR spots if things keep improving.

#4 This would be a go for me. Two years ago we added the WR/TE roster spot but never added to our keepers to accommodate for the extra starter. After we fill our roster excluding the Def/K slots only leaving 3 keepers to back-up 9 starters. Adding a keeper would allow you to back-up a QB, RB, WR, TE, or a Flex spot. To be fare to all, I would keep 12 & draft 7 this year, Keep 13 & draft 6 next year. Basically adding a roster spot from 16 to 17 hence eliminating the need to keeping 3 IR spots.     The bonus.....We are the Dirty Dozen League.

#5 I would be open to this as well, but not go crazy on the scoring. Just a nice bump.

2021 League setting topics for discussion:

  1. Changing rolling waivers to FAAB
  2. Superflex league
  3. Changing from 3 to 2 IR spots (prior move was only temporary in setting of COVID). This is likely to happen unless COVID is expected to impact the 2021 season.
  4. Increasing number of keepers from 12 to 13
  5. Increasing return yardage scoring

1. Yes

2. If we do this, I think it should be for 2022. Gives everyone this off-season and next to make QB plans.

3. Keep at 3.

4. Yes please.

5. Sure, why not.

1. Switch to FAAB

2. I don't really care but would lean towards no.  If we do it we should plan on 2022.

3. I don't care

4. No, 12 keepers is plenty.

5. I am fine with this within reason.
