What? You always use them before the two minute warning. Here's your possible scenarios:

2:10, run, timeout. 2:05, run, timeout. 1:59, incompletion and 2 minute warning. We get the ball with 1:59 left, 1 timeout.

2:00, run, two minute warning. 1:55ish, run, timeout. 1:50ish, incompletion. We get the ball with 1:50 left, 2 timeouts.

BUT, had they run the ball or completed a pass, scenario 2 gives us the ball at 1:50 with just one timeout.

It's only better to save them if you KNOW they're going to get that incomplete pass on the last play. Any other way and calling the timeout early saves you time.

The situation was 3rd & long with 2:05 on the clock. You had 2 TOs right?

  1. Use TO. Clock stops at 2:05. They run or get a non-first down completion. 2 minute warning. You get the ball with about 1:53 left, 1 TO
  2. Use TO. Clock stops at 2:05. They throw an incompletion. 2 minute warning. You get the ball with about 1:53 left, 1 TO
  3. Don't use TO. 2 minute warning. They run or get a non-first down completion. Use TO. You get the ball with about 1:48 left, 1 TO
  4. Don't use TO. 2 minute warning. They throw an incompletion. You get the ball with about 1:53 left, 2 TOs.

^Option 4 is clearly the best. By holding onto the timeout the worst case scenario is that you lose about 5-7 seconds, but the best case scenario is you get 2 timeouts with the same amount of time left.

Raiders not making the playoffs.

Nope. We'll be lucky to get to .500.

Tough games coming up against the Chiefs and Bills.

I think you lose to KC on TNF, but maybe you beat Buffalo who you'll have to travel across country and you'll have more time to prepare and get things ironed out.

The Chiefs need to figure out the Steelers or their season is going to end just like the last one. They had a great opportunity to win this game and couldn't get it done.

Honestly, if we can get healthy, I'll feel comfortable. Tuitt beat up on Erving all game. The safety was on Zach Fulton. That dropped pick turned TD was against Phillip Gaines. That last drive attempt was tough, with Demarcus Robinson, De'Anthony Thomas, and Marcus Kemp at WR. Bunch of guys who won't be on the field in these situations in a week or two.
