NBA 2020-21 Season - Game Day Thread (Bring Back The Wolf Pit!)

Lakers Nation -   The NBA board of governors has unanimously approved Todd Boehly and Mark Walter’s investment in the Los Angeles Lakers, a 27% stake previously owned by billionaire Philip Anschutz, according to a person familiar with the vote.

This is certainly big news for both the Lakers and Dodgers as L.A.’s two most historic franchises are now intertwined once more, this time at the ownership level.

While the Buss family has never been afraid to spend money in order to put together a championship roster, their luxury tax bill could get very expensive this summer considering the team is already over the salary cap and could have as many as 10 free agents.

The addition of billionaires like Walker and Boehly could help Lakers ownership be more willing to pay a large luxury tax bill, which is big if they want to retain key free agents such as Alex Caruso, Talen Horton-Tucker and Dennis Schroder.

Additionally, Walter and Boehly also bring ownership experience to the table given their success running the Dodgers since they purchased the team in 2012.

I really don’t get why they wouldn’t pay Sexton. They can’t afford to be losing talent, especially a young guy they actually hit on with the draft

He's going to want near max money and they also have to extend Jarrett Allen this summer who's a RFA. If they pay them both they'd be over the salary cap with just Love, Sexton, and Allen. Not to mention they also have Garland's extension coming up soon as well.

I think the biggest issue for Cleveland is that Sexton/Garland don't fit well together defensively. They're both 6'1" 190 guards that get torched which is why the Cavaliers have been one of the worst defensive teams in the league over the last two seasons. They also seem to prefer Garland over Sexton, who's cheaper, more of a true PG, and on his rookie deal for the next couple of years.

Schroder would look MUCH better if AD would play C and he had less traffic at the rim. He's getting more hate than he deserves for how the season ended but a lot of the Lakers issues are solved by just putting AD at C.

I don't know if Schroder gets 100M, but it's not a crazy ask. May need to settle for less but if he gets like 5 years 90M, will anyone really be surprised?

He refuses to play C, wouldn’t do it on the Pelicans either for more than small spurts.

Which is crazy. If this was even 10 years ago then is understand but now with the emphasis of small ball he’s not going against true 5s.

who would the Lakers replace Schroëder with anyways?

That'd be a huge discount.

A source told The Daily News the combo guard wants to go home, or “wants the bag.” “Home is the preferred destination,” the source told The Daily News. “But he wants to secure his financial future, too.”

Los Angeles, of course, could be either the Lakers or the Clippers but both are over the luxury tax threshold and the only way for him to get him “home” and get paid would be through a sign-and-trade with either of the two teams.

There were rumors during the regular season that the Nets and Lakers talked about a trade centered on Dinwiddie for Kyle Kuzma. The Lakers go into free agency with a very unsettled backcourt. Dennis Schroeder, like Dinwiddie, will be a free agent. Schroder, a year older than Dinwiddie, reportedly declined a four-year, $84 million contract offer. Alex Caruso filled in for him late in the season and the playoffs.

Kuzma and #22 for Dinwiddie and #27.

Could see that working for both teams. The Lakers getting a starting PG and the Nets get another big wing that can shoot and who has improved as a defender. They were reportedly discussing the deal at the ASB.

Definitely but with LeBron aging and needing all the spacing to get to the rim, AD isn't going to have a choice. On select match ups they can to with two bigs but 90% of the time AD can play the C with no issues.
