This exactly situation is why the 'can't drive a QB into the ground and land on him' rule is in place. This will be the video in the NFL rulebook going forward. NFL doesn't want this for a reason and this is why the rule is in place. Now the NFC is wide open. Hope to see KC take it this year. Every week QBs get slammed to the ground. Most of the time it's clean hits.

Terry Bradshaw stated it clearly that Rodgers added to the chance of injury by extending his arm and making contact with it to the ground first, instead of tucking it in close to his body. that's 450+ pounds of mass delivering up the arm, looking for the weakest point. bones heal. he'll be back and be fine. I hope it is just a broken bone. There could be other damage in there.

JPPT1974
Well seems like Packers are scrambling to see if Brett Hundley can really help the team or find a QB that has been cut or is on trade. Seems it is curtains or says so the media.
vike daddy
here are the NFL rules, cited earlier. it describes exactly what happened and why it isn't illegal or a penalized play. Barr did not "unnecessarily" or "violently" throw Rodgers down to the ground. he didn't even throw him down at all, they went to the ground together. Barr also wrapped his arms around Rodgers during the tackle. it was Rodgers who stuck his right arm out to break his fall, contacting the ground first with it. a defensive player must not unnecessarily or violently throw him down and land on top of him with all or most of the defender's weight. Instead, the defensive player must strive to wrap up or cradle the passer with the defensive player's arms.

Quote The hit that injured Packers QB Aaron Rodgers did not overtly violate NFL rules. Rodgers was throwing while on the run, outside of the pocket. According to league rules, that eliminates some of the protection quarterbacks receive when they are in the pocket. The "one-step rule" no longer applies. Defenders still can't "stuff" the passer into the ground, but it would be a judgment call to suggest that's what Vikings LB Anthony Barr did. jrry32
Listen, losing Rodgers is rough, but the Packers will rally around Brett Hundley and play good football.
