It's a great strategy against a team like KC or even Dallas, but against teams like Cleveland, Baltimore, New England, and Minnesota I'll be intrigued to see that, because usually they're very patient teams.

@jrry32 and @Dr LBC maybe you guys can answer this one. Based on last year, did the Rams face any patient offensive teams? And if yes, how did Staley’s defense hold up?

despite popular belief, Herbert's ADOT has been pretty low this year. lowest in the division (including carr, bridgewater). but they're still utilizing his arm strength, since he can drive the ball into the flats quick enough to give guys YAC opportunities. the raiders cover 3 scheme basically dares the other team to throw short into the flats, with the corners being taught to break on the ball and make the tackle. so defensively for the raiders, it will come down to the corners not allowing broken tackles.

otherwise, will be interesting to see how the raiders pass rush fares against the chargers. ravens/steelers/dophins dont have great OL's, so the good pass rush results could be a mirage. slater has been solid at LT so far, but they're very vulnerable on the right side with bulaga out of the picture. if the raiders are going to give Herbert fits, the onus will be on Crosby beating up Storm Norton on the right side.

on the other side... for all the **** Gruden gets (and deservedly so from a roster building perspective), the raiders are a pretty diverse offensive team. in recent years they've shown the ability to win relying on a power run game (chargers run defense has been terrible to start the year), they can score with the short-intermediate passing game when Carr wants to be methodical, and lately they've shown the ability to strike deep with more consistency. staley's defense is predicated on removing the big plays, so the burden will be on the raiders to get the run game going, something which hadn't really been a thing in weeks 1 and 2. would be pretty helpful if jacobs is active and effective

i just hope both teams get out of this game without too many nicks and bruises. short turnaround to week 5

With regards to Herbert’s ADOT, they haven’t gone as much vertical this year compared to last. Not sure why. Maybe because every time we’ve gone vertical, it’s been called back😂 But I know he’s more than capable of doing it. In a way, it’s actually nice to see Herbert do well in the short and intermediate areas of the field. Makes him less one dimensional.

yeah i'm not suggesting Herbert doesnt have the ability to go deep. from a breakdown i heard earlier this week a lot of the big plays down the field tend to happen out of structure when Herbert buys time

Not just that. ADOT is deceiving. Until Chargers have a good consistent run game, they are going to throw to the RBs alot, which impacts total ADOT for qb.

If you want an accurate guage of ADOT, look at perimeter and inline players (wr's & te's) and see what their ADOT is.

Good info regarding Staley and his D philosophies. Gruden has been a pretty stellar playcaller (other then getting conservative AF with a lead late in games and randomly going for it on 4th downs in your own end). Again, this is definitely a game it'll hurt not having Jacobs. Renfrow and Waller could eat doing the underneath stuff but it sounds like it'll be surprising if Ruggs gets a deep bomb in.
