RIP any chance of small market teams competing ever again. That would turn baseball into the PL. Only 4-6 teams have a chance of winning it. RIP any chance of small market teams competing ever again. There would have to be a bunch more revenue sharing. But yeah, that's what the MLBPA should have been going after. They didn't even tackle service time manipulation, but in the next CBA we should see the minimum salary go way up and players should be reaching free agency at least a year earlier. I really hope the Sox win the game of chicken and get him for 5 years.
flyguy1609
Christian Yelich's agent told Jerry Crasnick of ESPN.com on Tuesday that his client's relationship with the Marlins is "irretrievably broken." Yelich expressed surprise and disappointment last month when the Marlins moved Giancarlo Stanton and Marcell Ozuna, and now his trade request has become more of a trade demand. "The relationship between player and team is irretrievably broken," the agent, Joe Longo, said Tuesday. "It's soured. He's part of the old ownership regime. The new ownership regime needs to get new parts into this plan and move forward, and he needs to get on with his career where he's got a chance to win. The big issue is him winning and winning now." Yelich, 26, has drawn interest from the Nationals, Blue Jays, Giants, Phillies, Braves, and Rangers, but Miami's asking price is said to be sky high. http://www.espn.com/mlb/story/_/id/22123963/christian-yelich-relationship-miami-marlins-irretrievably-broken-agent-says wish the phils made a move to get this guy, even if we would have to eat a contract(Wei-Yin Chen) we have more then enough prospects to make a deal
ramssuperbowl99
David Stearns did an interview and said he "fully expects Travis Shaw to be in a Brewers uniform for a long time to come". The answer sounds generic but the tone was very much that the Moose-Shaw swap won't happen.
tom cody
Yelich would be a good pickup for a lot of teams for sure. He would look good IMO especially in the Toronto outfield. Would really help their outfield issues.

At the very least I'm demanding arbitration $$$'s be higher. Higher salary floor, give teams a larger draft pool (please god), salary floor for young players needs to be way higher it's not like teams don't have the money, basically everybody turns a profit nowadays even the Royals make money. Maybe some type of restricted free agency is the way to make this work. Teams would have to pay out a pretty high amount of cash to prevent players from entering RFA, if not, players can solicit offers and teams would have the ability to match. Again, this just won't work without every team getting enough revenue sharing to run payrolls within 20% of the luxury tax, but at least it's closer. Revenue is at the point where higher % of sharing is viable, the 5-6 giant market teams can subsidize the rest of the league and still turn a profit. The MLB is going to fight like hell to keep any type of NBA/NFL % of revenue style system out. Way cheaper to pay Ivy League white kids to exploit loopholes. The MLBPA is going to need a few CBAs to dig themselves out of this.
hrubes20
I'm waiting for the first NHL-style 10 year deal for the same money that the player would normally get for 5; solely for the purpose of lowering AAV for luxury tax purposes.
flyguy1609
Source: Boston's offer to J.D. Martinez is in the range of five years, $100 million. I guess that's why jd is holding out? but does he realize a lot of these teams don't have/aren't going spend til next off-season I guess for him maybe do a 1 yr 15-20 mil deal and try to hit fa next yr. Yep. Give more money to young players. Lessen the discrepancy in value between pre-FA and post-FA players to incentivize FA participation and decentivize tanking.
