It actually really hasn't had as wide a use as you want to intimate, particularly outside of Europe. And nearly every actual armada in Europe were colonizing armadas (Spanish, Portuguese, and English). And the most commonly thought of instance of "armada" to the layman (which whether you like it or not the NFL absolutely has to concern itself with when it comes to marketing, expansion, and maximizing revenue - which we all know is the league's principal objective) is the Spanish armada. His point being, it's carelessly unnecessary as a name choice for a team where the name choice has little-to-no tie to the team's location or the history/culture of that location. It's a lazy, generic name that was likely included because it's already in use by several minor league sports franchises in coastal or coastal-adjacent regions.
